Why did the paint crack?

Not too sure but it seems to be in the previously undisturbed areas so may be due to the paint beneath.

I didn't take any chances and just stripped it the whole way round, including the sound areas that i stripped back before to make sure.

Cheers

Ben

Looks good, shame about the problems but happens to all of us at some time, it’s one of those things when unsure how good underlying paint is,
What product do you use to seal around the gutter

Cheers Daz.

Yep, was an odd one as the paint was sound beneath with no signs or lifting and the cracking when I prepped the roof last time. However once the cracks showed, it had lifted the paint back to bare metal and the edges of the cracks were crispy and flaky.

Oh well, sorted out now of course. Just a shame for John the owner to have to bring it back. At least he had an appointment to have the door done so it was ok.

I use Wurth Dichtfix which really is excellent. It is very runny so can be forced into tiny gaps and is perfect for sealing roof gutters and door skins as you can gun a thin bead all the way round and then run a finger round and it smooths out beautifully and flows into the edges.

It's good for brushing over seams too and looks great over painted.

I also have a rather elaborate application gun which can match OEM finishes by spraying the Dichtfix straight onto the seams.

Cheers

Ben

Hi John.

I have passed on the details of the repair to Kirsty who is going to be preparing a written quote which she will e-mail out to you.

It will also include details on when the work can be carried out.

Cheers

Ben

I have mentioned to Ben that he needs to get some stickers produced, he may need some suggestions for suitable wording?

This car really needs a front end. It's the only part that hasn't been repaired now and some bubbling is showing on the leading edge of the bonnet (due to the inner frame corroding) and on the front top of the o/s wing.

Unfortunately, i'm not going to be able to carry out that work for some time yet so we decided to do some temporary fixes to keep the rust at bay and the car looking good.

Starting with the wing,  there were some slight rust blemishes under the paint that quickly escalated

I got carried away with the repair process so didn't remember take any more pics until I had put on a coat of filler but have placed the removed pieces of wing in shot so we know they have been cut out..

Like I say, the wing is pretty well shot so these repairs are just temporary.

No worries, It turned up last thing Friday but it's not without its problems. It isn't damaged per se but does not fit nicely.

I was planning to have a think and then discuss with you on Monday.

Cheers

Ben
