Hello All

 

I have read a number of posts on painting prep ect but am a little bit unsure so would like some help please.

 

For the underside, wheel arches and engine bay I am going to strip back and apply POR 15 to protect then apply stone chip on the underside.

 

For the body work should I be using POR 15 for the base protector coat also ? If yes should this be sprayed or brushed on ?

 

Your help would be appreciated

By all means use POR15 on the underside, but best to use a quality epoxy primmer on the

topside.

I used bilthamber epoxy mastic on underside and found it went on quite well

I would not use POR-15 for visible body panel surfaces. It's very difficult to get a smooth (body panel quality) finish with POR-15, and it's extremely difficult to sand smooth like primer is meant to. And you'll have to do more panel prep work because POR-15 prefers a roughly finished surface to adhere to. These are all great for frames and the underside, or small rust-repaired sections, but I'd shudder to think about doing a whole body.

 

I agree that a quality epoxy primer would be the best choice. It will give nearly the same moisture-resistant properties, and the other properties of POR-15 are largely irrelevant for a clean, rust free external body panel surface.
