Hi;

I'm sure I have asked this before and I'm sure many have. I am close to finish my restoration and want to ensure its weather proofed.

What cavity wax should I get and where should I use it?

I seem to recall that I need to fill the box sections of the Front and Rear Subframe, inside the scuttle closers etc but would like confirmation.

The bottom of the car is Expoxied, Stone Chipped and Top Coated. The rear Subframe have been stripped Epoxy Primed and painted with Engine Enamel.

I have a can of Bilt Hamber Dynax UC which is a clear wax that I have used for the brightwork and nuts etc on the rear end.

Many thanks

Mix waxoyl and duck oil (or similar light release oil) 50 - 50, warm it up then spray it until it runs out the bottom!!

I just did my old land Rover Discovery and I mixed Waxoyl with old engine oil (20w50, of course ;D ), 50/50, and blew it into the chassis box sections, under the floor and in both outer sills in large quantity.

I do some work ay a lorry repair place, they build wagons that are used for road repairs, hot boxes and gritters etc, they have tried everything and found good old waxoyl is the only thing that works, they coat the underside of all their trucks with it when they come in for an overhaul. They said the fancier stuff just chips off compared to the waxoyl.

Where to put the wax - at the very least the following:

Sills, both sides. There are various ways of getting in from within the car, but the lance supplied with cans of Dynax S50 fits through the flutes so I do it mostly from outside

Crossmembers, accessed from within the car

Front scuttle close outs - accessible at the back of the engine compartment, just by the firewall. Again the S50 lance will fit in with a bit of wiggling

Front valance

Rear valance ends - accessed from within the boot

Inside the doors (but keep drain holes clear)

A posts, accessed with the door open

I also remove all seatbelt bolts to put wax in from there.

Hi;

After using the Bilt Hamber S-50 how do you clean the lance? If I dont clean it I guess it will block up?

This seams to be an up and coming product. Never used it but the land rover boys like it.

Good stuff Waxoyl. One of my daughters ex's (*******) was watching me apply some by brush after a repair on one of my cars. "Why are you spreading bacon fat on your car" he said. I looked at him with a mixture of hate and pity in my eyes and went back under the car - double *******.
