Hello,

I'm new here so I do apologise if the following has been covered before.

I know that the question regarding number plate stickers on bonnets is a common one and I know the legalities surrounding it,  but I can't seem to find the answer to the specific query that I have.  I'm currently working on a 'Paddy Hopkirk' inspired classic Mini and am keen to get a number plate sticker for the bonnet similar to the picture attached.  However, I do not want to get my own registration on it and my car with still have its legal plates attached.  The number plate sticker would simply be for 'effect.'  Would this cause a problem legally given that it is not a replacement for my legal number plates and will be in addition to them?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Sarah

some plant vehicles have two number plates , when one is obscured for some reason , also airport services etc

https://www.gov.uk/d...plates/overview

I can't see any reason in the above why you shouldn't have 2 front number plates (as long as they are correctly made)

and visible from the front

edit ....

& both are the car reg number - any other number would be illegal

I think the OP wants to have two number plates each showing a different number.

And that would be a problem.

Could you cover bonnet number plate when on the road, with something like those magnetic panel things? Like the stuff fridge magnets are made from? Not sure of the name though.

you mean use a bonnet bra to rust your bonnet.

Are you wanting to display the plate from another car 'for effect' alongside your own?  If so, thats effectively one step away from what the police will describe as cloning a cars plates to avoid fines etc.  Dangerous territory to get into.

Hi,

Thank you for your replies. My original post should have read that 'I do want to get my own registration on the bonnet number plate', not 'I do not want to get my own registration'! 😳 I realise that a different registration would be highly illegal! 😜
Its still only an idea so will give it some more thought. Thank you all for your input 🙂

So long as you have the correct legal plate you can fit a black/white plate on the bonnet as well.
If you are building a works 1071 S replica it is the rear plate you'll have the problem with.
How far are you going in replicating Paddy's 33EJB?
