My son has bought a 1981 Mini (sold originally in Alandia Island, Finland, now moved ti mainland Finland). It is a Mini 1000 but at some point in time a 1275 cc engine has been fitted. I have been trying to find out what engine it actually is, based on the code but without luck sofar.

The engine code is 12HA28AA 100316.

12HA indicates a Metro engine but the "28" after that is the tricky part. I believe the 100316 at the end is the serial number.

I'll attach a picture of the codeplate as well.

In addition to the engine data we would also be keen to know the gearbox ratio, as it apparently is different from what it was with the 998 cc engine originally.

Grateful for help!

I can't find a reference to that under either Minis or Metros, not that my lists are exhaustive.

Just wondering if it might be from one of the other FWD derivatives?

More general pictures of the engine would be good.

just been thinking.

Metro 1275 HLE or a Maestro/Montego 1.3 (is the short motor usable?)

depends where the oil filter is.

Enclosed a bit bigger picture of my profile pic. Shows the engine installed. Works just fine, measured 151 km/h speed with GPS.
