That Rear Subframe: Repair, Or Scrap?

suspension

Best Answer tiger99 , 06 September 2016 - 03:31 PM

Scrap it. In theory you could weld all the corroded areas but there still would be rust lurking in the seams which you would not be able to eradicate.

You should also put a value on your time, which is invariably precious and in short supply. At even £10 per hour you could buy a genuine subframe for less than the cost of repairing the old one. Go to the full post

Hi, I stripped my subby of pretty much everything to see if it's worth saving. What do you guys think?

Yes I'm in Canada. Parts are easy to find. Small parts I order from the UK, but for big parts like this we have basically one supplier, witch is Moss Motors. A Subframe is 534$ US

That's what I think, this project is taking me so long because I want to do everything by myself. I think I'm gonna start paying

Like tiger said, youve got to weigh it up in hour value. How much is your time worth?, cause you wont get it back.

I confess that I need to manage my own time better. For instance, playing Sudoku on the computer for an hour doesn't really bring £10 worth of pleasure. Nor would eating a Mcdonald....
