So i bought a second engine but it needed a few things to get running. i realised the dizzy that was in this new engine has like a black ignition module thing on the side of it. My car does not have provision for this kind of dizzy so i removed the dizzy and tried to insert my points dizzy. Quickly found out the drives were different so i tried putting in the dizzy drive shaft from my points dizzy into the new block to find that it does not even fit in the hole! So as i cant use either dizzy at this point. What can i do? Can i get a points dizzy with the drive of the new dizzy with the elec module on?

It seems you have an A+ and A parts mixed up.

You need to get the correct distributor to fit your block. You can get a points dizzy for either type.

There are many differences between the two. Stiffening ribs. Position of alternator bracket bolt holes. The way the dizzy is clamped not to mention the width of the the dizzy drive dog.

All of these are mentioned in the Haynes manual.

But in this area you are looking the A has two bolts for clamping the dizzy while the A+ has one and a clamping fork.

why not use the one with the black module? If the loom is missing, im sure you can buy it from minispares

Or you can wire it using small terminals, if 3 pins, then the middle one isnt used. One negative and one positive, there will be guides to which is which on the interwebnet.

Apologise here in advance, but I felt I should bring these recent threads to your attention regard fitting 'any old distributor' to an engine, you might already be on top of it, I'm not sure. They are all on the same car, just separated in to 3 threads;-

Also FYI, you can fit an A dissy to an A+ Engine and viki-verka. All you need do is note down the orientation of the drive dog to the rotor button, then drift the pin out of the dog, swap, check the orientation as per your sketch / notes and re-fit the pin. The other point to be aware of is that the A Distributor shaft is about 0.020" longer than the A+ one, so you'll need to grind a lick off the length of it. The other thing is if fitting A+ Dissy to an A Block, you'll need to be creative for a clamp. As a matter of course on all A Engines I do these days, I weld a short piece to the Dissy collar (that goes on the block), drill & tap 3/8" UNF and use the A+ Clamp. Easy, takes about 5 minutes and is a much better clamp.
