Mine is purple, but I have been told that's normal

That could be caused by a stuck pressure relief valve.

Have you fixed the leak?

No, I haven't been able to. The oil pressure gauge was undone, but not removed when i was looking, could this be the cause of the oil pressure rising? Also I've just topped up the oil if that could effect it?

As I say, it could be the pressure relief valve sticking.

This isn't a particularly big or expensive job to sort.

How low was the oil?

How much is weeping?

Is the leak something new?

Electric or mechanical?

If electric I would bin it and fit a mechanical as you could have the wrong sender unit.

crisis avoided, a weak connection in the leads, quick replacement and all is fine, the leak however; to give you an idea, from the oil being around 5mm under minimum 3 days ago, to then being filled to midway between max and min had today dropped below minimum again.

Did you take the fittings apart and check the threads as I suggested? Get a roll of PTFE plumbers tape from B&Q before you do, and use it anyway on all the threads.

But you can't know if all the oil is being lost at that point. There is natural wasteage in teh cylinder to piston ring contact area for a start, even in an engine in the best possible condition.
