My suspension was is poor condition before fitting the g max shocks. I fitted LOTS of other parts inc new cones, bearings, bushes. It did seem to feel a little bit stiffer, if I remember rightly. (The shocks are around 20% uprated). I fitted them about 5 years ago, and still on the car.

I had some gmax shocks on an old mini once and they performed very well.

Don't they have Koni shocks on from the factory? If they are on there and knackered then it'll be an improvement but otherwise I'd consider the Koni to be the better unit. It'll be interesting to see what you find.

No they did not have expensive Konis from new. Almost all cars have the cheapest available from new. Woodhead Monroe was one of the cheap brands when Minis were built, and of abysmal quality. A few exotica may come from the factory with Konis.

But the Konis will indeed last for a very long time, maybe 150k miles.

I had mine replaced in the past with some cheapo ones being standard KYBs. So looking forward to adding the Gmax gas shoxs.

That wasn't a guess, GSA971114 is listed as a standard 'uprated' part on 1997+ MPis. I wasn't aware of it until a conversation with another customer and the guys at Somerford when they (the other customer) where trying to buy new rubbers which can't be replaced on the 'standard' Koni shocks.

I see these gmax from minispares-online  are listed as classic,

http://www.minispare...orbers-50r002f/

whereas the minispares site offer Gmax supersport' for lowered cars only. http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop

Are these different Gmax shocks, the first being standard height?

My brand new Sportpack Mini back in 1998 came with Konis as standard. It was an LE, if that makes any odds. God, I wish I hadn't sold that car.
