Finally the centre speedo is finished!

Had a few teething problems, mainly the fuel gauge wouldn't work All the wiring was correct, power was where it should be etc etc but it wouldn't go.

In the end, i earthed the feed wire at the sender end and turned on the ignition and the gauge moved up to full. I then disconnected my earth wire and put it back on the sender and hey presto..

The other was the speedo. For anyone else considering this conversion, get a longer speedo cable. I just couldn't get the cable to reach the speedo head as i couldn't get my hands in the space between the plastic oval housing and the bulkhead. I ended up having to disconnect the cable from the gearbox end which then gave me enough cable to connect it up.

I had to get someone else to reconnect the gearbox end as i couldn't get my big hands in to feed the cable on and screw the retainer on.

Anyway, here is the fitted speedo conversion. Only one liner is fitted as i need to fit the rev counter still. All the wiring is done for it so it will be quick and painless.

Sorry for the blury photos, my new camera hasn't arrived yet so i borrowed one which was quite old and basic. I only got these photos and the new batteries i put in went flat and i had no more.

Cheers

Ben

Did you manage to fit that speedo with the bulkhead plate still in?

Yes.

All i had to do was make the hole for the speedo cable big enough so that the speedo head is almost flush with the bulkhead plate and then the end of the speedo cable sleeve is slides through and remains in the engine bay behind the carb if that makes sense

It does cheers, I removed my plate as that's what center speedo cars are like but the noise is unbearable so back in it will be going.

They are. I expect the shock absorbers need to be adjusted softer. Ill sort that out when i can do a proper test drive.

I took it up the hill today and round the back and it's crazy but very fun. It certainly turned a lot of heads especially with no bonnet  ;D

looks great, would you be able to get a pic of the hole in the bulkhead plate when you get hold of another camera?

Hi Ben,

just spoken to Jack about the delay in the door cards and he's asking if we can pick up the car when it's ready and we will fit the door cards when they come in

cheers Darren

Don't worry about braided hoses, pure scaremongery, everyone with a sorted brake setup runs them.

They are illegal in some countries, like Switzerland, but are perfectly legal in a lot more including England.

You could get them homologated here but would probably cost more than the car, so...

Oh and I can't wait to see this build finished! Need lots of pictures!!! 😎
