Looking very nice!

I see an issue to rectify though: the RH track rod end is upside down. It should not be possible to fit it this way, because of the taper.

You are quite right.

Why it goes in that way up, i don't know. I shall check in the morning but nothing on the front hub is finished and tight yet, It's just loosely assembled so no big deal.

Cheers

Ben

Where only the threaded part was through the steering arm and the nut was only on 1 turn, it wasn't attempting to pull up the taper. That's why it went on

All switched round now  ;D

The engine bay is finally nearing completion.

Just the servo, brake limiter valve, clutch slave line and top engine steady to go. I have now wired up the electric fan kit and mounted the relays/fuses for the headlamp loom.

I thought i had resolved the hub issue with a spare set i had at home in my stash but alas they were Metro ones so no good. I have ordered a new one so i can't get the ride height set until it is here and fitted.

That's why the rear is low and the front high.

Once i had battled with the bonnet hinges which took forever due to my stupid big hands, i got the grille assembled and fitted using a grille button kit

I did loads of other bits and bobs too but tomorrow, i want to get the other door fitted up, play around with the seats some more and then start flatting and polishing whilst i wait for the rest of the bits to turn up.

Cheers

Ben

Amazing! It should be a museum piece rather than a track car! lol

I started off the day by sorting out the seats. They are bolted to subframes that use the existing mounting points and lock down onto the original hoops in the floor. Unfortunately, the hoops are too tall so although the seats lock down, they have quite a bit of up and down movement which wasn't acceptable,

I measured the distance between the locking pin and the top of the hoop and then removed this amount (15mm) from the height of the hoops and now they lock down tightly. i have left a small amount of play as i intend to use something between the back of the frame and the floor to prevent it from becoming scratched/scraped.

No picture of the modified hoops but here are some of the other seat fitted.

Now i can actually sit behind the wheel, i could start to experiment with suitable positions for the rev counter.

here looks good to me

But Darren, if you would prefer it somewhere else, just tell me where. There is still the dash cards/liners to go in so i think that it will look great against the flat black background instead of wires and painted metal.

With that done, i changed the normal bolts in the steering column mounts for the correct shear bolts and fitted a few grommets etc here and there

And then put the passenger door together.

Installed some riv-nuts for the wing mirror

And then installed that

I think the interior is looking great

I am part way through fitting the windscreen and that will be finished in the morning and then hopefully the new hub will arrive and i can get the Mini rolling.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

I like the rev counter there but it is Jack's mini (reminder to self) so he needs to make the decision, he's out with mates tonight so I may not get back to you 'til tomorrow.

Liking the red line at 2000 rpm hopefully not too much chance of destroying the engine, but may be a somewhat pedestrian lap, timed in hours not seconds :D

You're teasing us with the seats in, but still under wraps apart from the name on one seat

That steering wheel does need to go :X

Ben, if you can, treat those mirror mounting rubbers with something.  I have the same mirrors, from two weeks old the rubbers bleed black goo down the doors.  And if you do find something to treat them with tell me what it is!

Hi Ben

Jack is in agreement about the rev counter, looks good where you located it.

Regarding the steering wheel, struggling to find one we like. What is a good size? The one on the midget is like being captain of a cruise liner it's so big.

That's not good, ours were from Mini Spares, is that where you got yours from?
