One thing On your 5th picture you've knocked the lock washer on the main bolt for the flywheel, the washer should be punched into the slots in the crank, not back over the bolt as the lock washer is attached to the bolt.

Thanks for pointing that out.

It's been a long while since i have done one and that is how it was when i removed it.

Ill change that in the morning.

Cheers

Ben

I managed to find some time between jobs today to get the headlights fitted.

As they are Halogen upgrades, we decided to go with the upgraded loom kit from WiredbyWilson.

I have to say, it is very well made and extremely quick and easy to fit so with all that in place, we now have a Mini with eyes :-)

I need to mount the fuse/relay unit for the new headlamp loom but i want to wait until the servo goes in before i decide where to mount it.

I also re-routed the front of the front to rear brake pipe as i wasn't quite happy with the way i had routed it over the tower of the subframe.

I expect i will get back on it properly on Thursday.

Once the engine goes in, i can get the car mostly finished. I just need to wait for some back order items before it can be completely finished.

Cheers

Ben

I had a chance and took it!

Just one more job to get out this week which is due in tomorrow morning and then back to the Mini full time.

Any luck with the Midget?

I'm on my own tomorrow so there was one thing that i desperately wanted to get done today so i haven't got to try and attempt it by myself tomorrow

It was very very tight getting it in with the electric fan attached to the rad but i fancied that more than trying to fit it afterwards.

Full steam ahead tomorrow!

seems a right pain that you have to get them from the US and that safety devices don't make them :(

I'd be surprised if safety devices made any if I made honest. Sun visors are a projectile in a crash. You can get them in the uk, just need to speak to some o the jap car garages.

That's not a bad idea. Ill look into it for you.

Did you decide for definite if you wanted a sump guard too?

Cheers

Ben

Too many jobs and too little time so progress has been slow on the Mini sadly. That's the bad thing about being on my own for the past few days but boy, the peace and quiet was nice  :proud:

But i want to keep progress up so i have been working on the Mini during lunch breaks.

I managed to get the manifolds and carb fitted as well as the complete RC40 exhaust system

urEsd8D.jpg

I then fitted the selector box but didn't anticipate the bore of the downpipe getting in the way of fitting the steady bar bolt. It was literally a few mm but it wasn't going to go and i wasn't going to try and force it so i had to take off the carb and manifolds again to fit it.  >_<

With it in, i fitted the KAD quickshift

8nc2r8K.jpg

I have never fitted or used one of these before and they really make a difference to the throw of the gearstick. It feels really tight and close but very slick and of course reverse is now selected by lifting up the collar and pulling down.

I am very impressed with it.

Following that, i refitted the manifolds and carb again.

Colin is back on Monday so he can take care of the day to day stuff and i'm getting the Mini built.

we are farming out the tyre fitting as our equipment doesn't cater for 10" wheels so that is being done Monday. They should be ready to fit pretty soon. maybe as soon as the end of Monday.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

Yes please, for the sump guard, otherwise I think with it being lowered any raised manhole cover or sleeping policeman will rip the sump off
