Parts order still didn't turn up but they did call this afternoon to say one item is out of stock so i guess it hasn't been dispatched still....
Anyway, because of that, i have had to drop off the Mini again today and work on normal boring cars but i did manage to find some time to start prepping the engine for it's fresh paint.
i started by removing the ancillaries.
Everything seems ok with this engine and it's low mileage so it will be having just a new waterpump as that was past it's best and a rocker cover gasket. oh and a thermostat.
And here it is part way through removing the very thick very bright yellow paint
I expect it will get painted tomorrow so i can start getting it built back up and into the car.
Cheers

Bit more progress today.
The engine is now green and i have bolted some of the ancillaries back on it.
It's had a new waterpump oil filter, plugs, leads and clutch slave
Next i removed the clutch and flywheel to inspect them
I shall put in a new clutch whilst it is out as there is a fair amount of wear and the release bearing feels rough too.
I can't get a clutch until tomorrow so i decided to put on the new plugs and leads
You might notice that i repainted the plate that the radiator and engine mount bolt to and also the fan belt top pully. I also painted the clutch slave mounting plate which obviously isn't fitted yet.
A parts order turned up which had a few odds and ends i have been waiting for.
I fitted the new rear foglight
And one of the front indicators as the other is broken which i hadn't noticed before so a new one will need ordering.
I should be able to get the whole day on it tomorrow so ill build the doors up, fit the electric fan kit and then when the clutch turns up, ill get that fitted and then the engine can go in.
cheers

Great work as ever - all of which I hope to copy soon :)
Quick question - I was trying to work out which front subframe mounts you fitted - I can see poly for the towers and I think rubber for the front. What about the lower rears?
Thanks,
Stu

The towers are semi solid, and the others are standard. the lower arms and tie bars are polybushed.

I decided to fit the rear bumper first today but before i did, i painted the boot hinge bolt heads as they are new and unpainted and not accessible with the bumper on.
And here is the bumper fitted
Next i put together the drivers door.
I am still waiting for the door cards to arrive as they are on back order sadly.
Then i put on the new door mirror
I was just about to start the other door when the clutch and new alternator turned up so i decided to continue with the engine build up.
New clutch in
New alternator on
And then the new radiator and electric fan
And an overall shot of the built up engine ready to fit
Last thing was to cover the mini back up. Colin has a luton, a motorhome and a big Buick coming in next week over Monday Tuesday and Wednesday so progress is going to slow down again but it's not going to affect the progress as quite a few things i need to finish it won't be available until the 2nd week of October so still plenty of time to finish everything else before they turn up.
Cheers
Ben

As soon as i get the engine in, the front hubs can go on and then so can the wheels.
Then it will be a case of the drivers seat, the windscreen and some trim. It is so close and will come together rather suddenly.
It was a shame that you couldn't get over today. I hope you manage to get the Midget sorted out.
Cheers

Looks great, excellent work. One thing On your 5th picture you've knocked the lock washer on the main bolt for the flywheel, the washer should be punched into the slots in the crank, not back over the bolt as the lock washer is attached to the bolt. also the speedo cable is in the wrong place on the 8th pic
