Ben,

Can you let me know how you get on with those handbrake quadrants? I've got a set and the fit is awful. There's a mm play between the hole in them and the pin.

 Hi Ben

last post was as a followup from this one from Steve220

Can I ask why a weld in cage wasn't used for this? Good choice on the engine spraying imo

Hi Matt,

it's only being used for a bit of fun on a few track days and Ben has welded in strengthening plates. I didn't think it needed a welded in cage also much more difficult to install as I understand

cheers Darren

Hi Ben,

if any of the kit I bought isn't up to scratch, in your opinion please let me know and I'll get it changed, for example are the minifins OK they weren't the the most expensive but equally they were from one of the bigger mini suppliers so hopefully not cheap rubbish

by the way the protech shocks look good

Also interested to know if the hand brake quadrants were OK

Thanks

Darren

Everything so far seems to be fine but i will let you know if anything comes up.

The handbrake quadrants are fine and work well. There is a mm or so up and down movement in them but this is normal.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

Can I ask what sealant you used for this?

Was it Silkaflex?

Could you use this to reinstall the window regulators as well or could you recommend some more suitable?

Thanks.

It is a non-setting windscreen sealant by 3M which is ideal for this sort of thing as it stays watertight but can be peeled off if the piece needs to be removed where as sikaflex would be a more permanent bond and difficult to remove

Cheers

Ben

Oh, and it would be suitable for the window regulators too

Not too much actual progress on the car itself today as i spent a lot of the day sorting out the last of the parts and searching online and with suppliers for the last of the illusive parts which all seem NLA.

Anyhoos i got all the body sealing hardwear on

And installed the switches

Then the choke and heater cable

Then the blower unit

I also put in the water pipes for the heater matrix and the de-mister vents

The steering column bracket turned up (thanks Josh) so i put the column, switches, cowling and steering wheel in

I was going to fit the seats but there just wasn't time today

I did get the horrible little clevis pin in for the clutch master to pedal which no matter how many times you do one, they are always a bugger. At least that's done out of the way now.

I only have the afternoon to spend on the Mini tomorrow as I'm needed on the spanners for a couple of hours in the morning.

Cheers

Ben

I love how the switches look, such a neat job. Now all it needs is the heater deleting but I guess in England that isn't an option...

The weather here is the main issue. If nothing else, the heater would be needed for demisting the screen, not that a Mini heater is very good at that

Is that a DSN drop bracket Ben?  I'm loving the switches like that too, they look just right.

I don't think the bracket is DSN. It was in a plain bag with a minispares stock sticker on it It came with all the parts that Darren had bought before we got the car in.

Thanks for the compliment on the switches, i think they came out well.

Cheers

Ben

Hi CharlieNZ, we did talk about ditching the heater as well but decided it was better to be able to see out of the windscreen on a frosty or damp day both of which are quite frequent in the UK

by the way Jack is looking to travel to NZ at some point this year, what's the must do thing over there?

cheers Darren

Don't think the steering wheel is going to last long, doesn't really go with the grey and black theme of the mini
