The guy that designed it was Allan Stainforth, a bit of a clever guy by all accounts if you check his history ( unfortunately now no longer with us)
You buy a book and a set of plans and off you go, because of advances in technology, laser cutting etc it's probably easier to make now than it was back in the day.
The plan is to build an A series powered job like the original, it won't be competitive but should be bloody good fun.

I think Midas still have the Gold, Excelsior & Cortez available.
See http://www.midascars.co.uk/index.html
I've met the owner a few times, genuine guy.

Sort of, but moving completely away from a Mini donor, modifying an existing car and making it look right is a lot harder than it looks.

I suppose a slightly larger version based on the MGF MGTF would work, getting it to look as good the old coupe would be the challenge. along these lines but with the coupe body http://www.sylva.co.uk/sylva-vectis-2/
Squeezing the body on a Mojo style chassis would make a good car, but who'd buy a kit car these days

'Maximum Mini' below is a great website for kits and cars based on the Mini, also a series of three interesting books is published about them:
Maximum Mini (preview here), Maximum Mini 2 (preview here) and Maximum Mini 3 (preview here).

Alan, much time spent at Harewood and at his home discussing suspension. And the guy (I forget his name) who started Primo he spent hours asking me questions about the CoxGTM
