Hmm is it. ... actually I'm cheating slightly here with this being Metro based.

It's always been the GTM Coupe for me. Not the Cox, but the later ones from the mid-80s with the little chin spoiler and 12" wheels. They look like a Ferrari Dino that's been washed on too hot a cycle. I think they're awesome little cars despite never having driven one.
One day I will own one.

That's dodgy ground calling the Unipower a 'kit'
I think my favourite is the Unipower GT, only ever seen this one and that was at Burford historic specials show, it was too new to be part of the show, only pre 60's car are allowed.
The Unipower was a kit car! I know someone who avoided Purchase Tax by doing the final assembly himself of the brand new car he collected from Perivale.
I have a bit of a Mini-Marcos / Jem / Midas fetish going on these days, especially with the affordable prices of Midas, but if I were actually going to build a kit today, I think I'd like one of the Nostalgia Cars Ogle replicas. [If they're still making them]

Regarding the Unipower that I saw a few years ago, the owner/restorer had brought 2 back from the USA, the yellow one for sale for £35K,(think it was going to Japan) then he was going to restore the other one he'd brought back which I think he said was white.
At the same event there was an ABC Tricar, which is very rare.

That just sounds like a back door tax dodge for someone that was known to them, that was common at the time, I'm sure the 'final assembly' was very limited, most of the cars were fully built, though I'm sure, as you say, some came out of the factory just incomplete enough to ensure they had the final assembly done at home. To me a kit car is a bodyshell / possibly suspension that you buy when you have a doner car to transfer all the bits from (and back in the day the registration too), I know a lot of these later (modern) offerings are effectively now cars that you SVA / IVA / BIVA (what ever it is called this week) so they don't require any rusty old Mini / Cortina / Metro / Sierra to start with.

One of our members has an Elan which apparently took a few hours work to complete all those years ago, it avoided paying purchase tax.

I've always loved the six wheelers such as the hustler or cub
I've never list the amazement I had as a kid seeing them at car shows
Always reminded me of the Banana Spits TV show
This Hustler has done some shows over the last 25 years or so

Is that a Terrapin?I could have posted this as my favourite mini based kit, but because I plan to build one I thought it would be a bit biased

Could well be as the designer also designed the Mambas.
