Gear selector removed from the Micra and ready to clean up and cut/fit. Whats the best process for doing the selector?

Silver high temp manifold paint ordered up from Ebay. Will be drilling a 22mm hole in the manifold tonight and welding in the M18 boss for the Lambda so the manifold is ready for the paint when it arrives. Havent ordered heat wrap yet.

Tried removing the original Lambda Sensor from the old manifold today using a lot of heat. It started moving, and unscrewed nicely but the threads were corroded that bad the threads are now non-existant! New Lambda Sensor also ordered from Ebay..... :-(

One step forward and a few back sometimes..... lol

If I could make a recommendation it is buying a decent lambda sensor. And I proved this on my focus. I bought a cheaply and lasted a few months, I then bought a bosch genuine one for £65 and the difference was incredible and I never had to replace it again

I made a rod up with threaded ends and lock nuts for my gear linkage so I could adjust the length. There were quite a few bends in the rod. In the end I decided to finalise it after I had done the exhaust.
The lock nuts will get a splash if mig once I'm happy.

Everyone else seamed to find this part easy but I was messing about for a few nights before I decided to get on with something more productive.

Easier with 2 people obviously chop the two rods in half fit both bits to the car then select first gear on the engine and have someone hold the selector inside the car in first place postion, tack it with weld and then have ago at selecting all the gears. If it's all good then weld it up if not cut your tack and have a re-position :)

Sounds like a good plan  Mr Legg, pretty much what I had been thinking. :-)

Will get my wee lad out to give me a hand. He helped me remove it from the Micra at the weekend. Like getting him involved as he is daft on Minis.

I will take plenty of pics and give a run down on the job after its done, possibly this weekend.

Arse, wish Id read this before I ordered one. Its a Delphi, so not the cheapest one out there by a margin, but it was only £26. Will see how it goes I suppose. Thanks.

My lovely Fusion Fabrication Inlet arrived yesterday, so I dashed out to the garage and stuck it all onto the engine.

It looks the business like, but unfortunately it just catches on the underside of the bonnet when the front is on it.

This is an easy fix however, and as you can see from the photos, I cut a wedge out of the main inlet tube to level out the throttlebody mount plate. This will be welded up by a mate of mine who is a welder this weekend.

I tried it onto the mini again, taped up just as a trial, and it now fits and clears everything nicely. One happy lad overall..... :-)

Update:-

Ive now managed to get the gear selector fitted and welded. Its very strange being able to select 5 forward gears in a Mini. A very smug feeling indeed.

The mini is now back on its wheels, ready for lining up the front end and drilling/tapping the holes for the hinges in the crossmember.

Thats the first time its been on the ground with the new engine. Can tell that the Micra engine is a lot lighter than an A series alright.

Also began removing the Micra loom yesterday. And the clutch cable, and throttle cable etc...

How much lighter do you reckon it is? Compared to a A series engine.

Not a clue, but the mini that was brutally lowered with the A series now has 3" gaps between the wheel and arch. Its noticeable alright.

Edit:- have yet to add water and oil, so maybe it will come down a bit yet, but I was standing on the frame to get it to move down.

I remember looking at this before. I think it was about 30-40kg lighter.

And my subframe is lighter than the original as well.

Thats a fair saving from the A Series. Should make a difference to performance in its own right.
