Hello

I am a big fan of cloth sunroof and wondered about which Minis got one.

I have seen Webasto on early one but I think the first sunroof Mini is the limited edition British Open but how many ? and how many series (thrice edited ) ?

Was it later introduced to production ? I have recently seen a Cooper with sunroof ...

By the way, are all those sunroofs electrically controlled ???

Many thanks in anticipation.

I think the British Open Classic was the first to be factory fitted with them and it was an option on the 1997> MY Minis.

Always loved the look of them, maybe a bit leaky though?

I think they look great but repair costs are massive plus minis with extra holes cant help with the extra holes that develop naturally on minis!

open classic from factory, or fitted later (like mine). its fantastic when its sunny, but very noisy at speed, plus they can leak badly!

have a look here for the manual kit

I've got an electric Webasto which I've had stored away for ages now. I don't have the guts to get a great big hole cut into the roof though :P well I probably wouldn't fit it to my current mini, but definitely will end up on a mini one day!

Back in the 1970's I fitted a Webasto sunroof from a Triumph Herald into my 1967 Mk1 below. Scrapyards were full of old Heralds with Webasto sunroofs so we used to remove them recover with new vinyl and refurbish as required and them fit them to many different cars for friends and family (if they were brave enough to have the the hole cut !). Flat steel strengthening bars were also fitted across each end of the roof opening behind the headlining.

I also rather like this very neat New MINI into Classic Mini panoramic glass sunroof conversion pictured below.

I think that that particular sunroof came from a Polo.

Similarly we have a estate with a Webasto sunroof that has shrunk in from the sides. Anybody know how to replace the fabric, is it just a case of getting some material and stitching it on?

I love my webasto, before I bought my Cooper I thought they would be rubbish and planned on a carbon skin... how wrong I was.

Excellent - must go down to my storage facility (posh name for a shed on a farm) and have a good look. I'm inspired.
