So I'm bored and thought my obsession with small vehicles might interest some of you.

A couple of months ago I was browsing gumtree and stumbled across this, it's 1998 jincheng/ easy rider m50 basically it's a Chinese copy of a Honda monkey bike, I've wanted one for ages and it was local so I had to have it. I gave it a once over and then chucked it in the boot of my car

I got home and sorted out tax and insurance and then immediately took it out for a spin, it only goes about 30-35mph flat out but it's the most fun I've ever had on the roads, dare I say it's more fun then my mini ever was. The amount of looks I get while riding it are astonishing, I thought people stared at my mini when I went past but with this thing everyone turns around to gawp at you.

I carried on bombing around on it for about 400 trouble free miles till one day:

The chain snapped going down hill at about 45mph and locked the rear wheel for a brief second, after a long walk home and a change of pants I went and got a new chain which was quite a hassle as barely anyone stocks 420 pitch chains.

More to come when I get a chance,
Thanks for looking Josh

So after nearly killing me I decided I needed better brakes the bike had drum brakes front and rear. While the rear drum could lock the back wheel nicely the front was terrible so I ordered a new front forks that were fitted with disc brakes

While the front wheel was off I also decided to rub down the surface rust on the wheel and spray it Matt black

I also decided to buy a smaller seat grab bar, cnc handle bar risers, renthal handlebar and a quick action throttle to fully unleash the massive 3bhp it might have. I also decided to change the controls into a all in one unit which was a pain in the arse to wire in.

With the disc brake on the front the bike could actually stop which was reassuring. I carried on cruising around on it for about a month with odd coloured wheels till:

I got a puncture in the rear tyre.

Next time you need a chain look on eBay ...loads of 420 chains from about a tenner ...lush looking bike, are you tempted by a bigger engine swap or are you going to keep it standard and reliable?

Thanks, second hand Chinese ones go for 300+, brand new Chinese 800-1000 depending on cc. For the real deal (Honda) your looking at a lot more

I couldn't wait for one to be delivered so I went to about 4 bike shops in the end. I've been looking into another engine for it as its not really that safe at 30, I'd be happy if I could get 50 out of it. The only problem is this is quite an old bike so it's running 6v electrics so if I get a new engine I need a 12v loom and lights etc

So after sitting in a sainsbury car park for an hour I had the he perfect excuse to place a new order with Ooracing. One new tyre, inner tube and some heavy duty foot rests and sliders as my foot rest was bent. I also got a new cnc side stand but the new footrest is bigger than the previous meaning that the bike topples over with the new stand, it would work if I went to 10inch wheels but I like the look of 8" wheels. With the rear wheel having to come off I finally got around to paint the rear wheel matt black aswell

And all back together and as the bike currently stands for now

You should be able to swap over the stator and it will work still on 6v?  Other thing to look at is a bigger barrel, head and carb - these engines are copies of the older Honda 50's .. the trick with these was to swap the piston, barrel, head, cam and carb of a 70cc engine as the strokes were the same ...may be worth a look?

Hi Dom, the electrics on the bike are tired so I might aswell just get a new loom and lights if I get a new engine and thanks for the info on the 70cc kit. The main problem is I want to eventually get a manual gearbox in it as it's currently semi auto and for the price of a big bore kit and the machining and manual parts I might aswell just get a 125-140 for it.
Thanks Josh
