Hey guys,

I've been slowly getting in with my Mk1 restoration.. The inner wings are in and now I need to get the inner A-panels on, so the rest of the front can be fitted.

I've got the panel tacked on on the passenger side, with the door held where I want it as a guide so the bolt holes line up etc and the hinges fit.

Despite getting everything lined up nice, I then noticed that the curved edge doesn't meet the seam along the sills...

Plus then there is a gap into the sills...

And then there is a huge gap when I try the outer A-panel against it...

Basically, it sounds like and obvious question... But does the bottom of the inner panel need to step out and cover the opening of the sills? In the first photo, you can see that the fold in the inner panel lines up agains pt the fold in the inner wing, which I thought was how they were meant to go together...

Any guidance would be great!

Chris

Here are a couple of pics of my a panel, the bottom lined up with sill

I would also add that I also welded outers in position first then ensured inner and outer panels were fully clamped together and hinges fully tightened before welding my inners as I have had issues in the past with the outers pulling in a little if I fitted inners first, difficult to explain though really. Main thing is door fit so you will have to alter things to maintain this, probably not as bad as you think though

That is hugely helpful, thankyou!

It looks a bit like you have a gap next to the sill though... Did you just weld something over that?

It's not welded on in that picture so is forward of sill. When welded in position it lined up fine,
