Scary last weekend, we got the mini moving but after a few times up and down the drive, the revs got stuck on and made an awful noise scaring the whole street

I would rethink rear quarters if doing the tubs, magnum quarters are just over £30 and the arches are roll spot welded to the tubs and quite awkward to remove, I found cutting quarter off with the tub and fitting new quarter much easier, the lower repair panels are not much cheaper if you also need the small bits at rear,

Daz yes you make a good point about the quarters and tubs being roll welded, and hard to split. I may be able to just do the inner arch top to save the quarter panels, but will have a proper look at the weekend. I may end up doing the quarters too, but had hoped to save them. The last couple of posts were from my eldest lad who is dead set against changing the engine and wants to fit a roof rack for some reason. In fairness he's 13 and has never ridden in a classic mini to know the performance limitations of the 850! The throttle cable return spring collet got jammed on the LCB at what and it was screaming its head off for a few seconds making me really popular. Happened on the road once too which was character building!

No problem I went through same dilemmas on my project and it can be difficult to know when to stop removing metal, best of luck with it and I look forward to updates, 1300 is no problem but I think it would be better mounted to a remote or magic wand box to retain original appearance but that's just my opinion.

Cheers Daz, I agree, my plan is to get the original 3 synchro magic want box rebuilt (synchro on 2nd has gone) as a 4 synchro Guessworks hybrid, with my spqr internal remote if I can't find the parts required for a proper alloy cooper remote. I thought I had found a suitable diff cover, but it's an 1100 with the side bolt flanges for the remote :(

The car has a good gold seal 3synchro box fitted, but doubt it would take the power hike, and the All-agro box runs a 3.993 diff from what I can find, which would mean manic acceleration on 10's but no top end. Decisions, decisions....

I think you can use an 1100 diff cover and drill it to take the mini remote, although I do like the magic wand change myself.

LoL, I leant to drive in it with the m/w and no synchro on first and second, it used to jump out of second with any hint of lift off, so driving one handed and palming the wheel, picked up too many bad habits! Had to use a driving school Mayfair to take my test 'cause the gearbox was so dodgy!

Just found this on eBay,  looks like a home 'engineered' remote extension for a mk1 magic wand box,  looks to be missing the rear mounting.

If anyone is wondering what an SPQR remote looks like,  have a look at this catalogue courtesy of Slowboy at mk1-performance conversions...

Yes North Birmingham, cool what shape is your '65 in?

I think I may have ended up with that engine .

It is solid and garage stored since 81. It has the same rear lights as yours - That's what they did in the day!!

Ah cool,  you beat me too it then!  Never mind,  probably saved me a few points!  We had a friend who worked at Lucas at the time and he used to be able to get discounted parts,  hence the back lights.  Do you have plans for the '65?

I was a Lucas apprentice and bits were readily available.

Lots of plans but two other projects in the way. It reality I have not touched it since 89 !!!! Life does get in the way

Sure does,  well if the S engine ever needs a new home,  I'd be interested,  but I assume you have plans for it...

Wished I still had it.!!

IT was sold in a mini 1275gt in 1989 - little head ruled the big one and didn't have the time to remove it and fit in with the girlfriend lol. Bought a mk1 golf GTI with the proceeds.

Do you remember my rally mini BOC33B
