Small update. I've been running the Fusion plenuem and single 48mm throttle body for about 500miles now. The car feels equally as quick and is definatley a lot quieter, but still noisey at full throttle which I don't mind. The car is making 105bhp with a very flat torque curve making it far better than a peaky cammed A series to make the same power.

I'm still waiting on my engine builder to port and flow the cylinder head for the modified engine, so plan is to do the engine swap over winter.

Other developments inc fitting a smaller 45mm throttle body direct to the plenum to improve throttle response, idle and drivability. I know this might be controversial but I honestly believe a 45mm doesn't restrict any power up to about 140-150bhp. Fitting a larger throttle body seems the in thing to do, but am making full power at 70% throttle so I'd rather have more control, especially with a short first gear and lightened flywheel.

I've also been trying to find a 3.65, 3.7 Final Drive, but not had much joy. The price came back at +£800+Vat for a new custom one, which is well out of the budget.

I bought a CD20 box, on advise from Matt Humphries the Micra Rally Guy, but it turn out to be a 3.895 as already fitted. My only choice is the CD17 box with the 3.789, but is hardly worth the effort with a difference of 100 rpm in 5th gear. I could swap out to the 0.733 5th gearset, but I'm wanting to use the gear set from a face lift 998, with a closer ratio and much better 1st & 2nd. I don't think you can just swap out the 5th gear, as it unlikely to be the same lay gear for both.

105bhp from the mods you have made is pretty respectable. I take it you are on standard ECU?

My mods are pretty similar to yours (homemade plenum) and I'm worried about under fueling. Suppose I should stop worrying and just see what happens when it is eventually running!

Very tidy build by the way. Very jealous!

Moving the throttle body directly to the plenum as improved throttle response, but I've got a annoying whistling at light throttle that needs investigating. Also the reduction from 48mm to 45mm throttle plate as improved drivability with a more progressive throttle. Power doesn't seem affected in anyway.

My quest to build a new gearbox is proving a little frustrating and rather more expensive than I entially thought.

So I've picked up a few different gearboxes, 1. 98-00 998cc gearbox (same as cg13, just better ratios) with only 45k. 2. CD17 n13 / n14. 3. CD20.

The plan was to find the lowest final drive and fit it into the 998 box, improving 1st, 2nd and overall engine speed when cruising on the motorway.

The CD20 was just a waste of money. It looks very similar to the other 2, but in fact as wider teeth on all the gears and is about a 25mm wider. I was hoping to fit the .733 5th gear but obviously it's not interchangeable. So even if it has came with a 3.65 FD as thought it wouldn't have been any good anyway.

Now the CD17 box as the same gearset as the cg13 with I don't need. Inc .0756 5th, which someone mensioned it as having the 0.733 ratio. But I will be using the 3.789FD though.

So just when I thought I'd got all the bits needed I've discovered damaged synchro teeth on 2nd gear and wear on that same baulk ring on the 998 gearset. I thought going anyway from a series gearboxes would solve this problem. So I'm back on the look out from yet another low mileage gearbox to add to my collection.

Also really tempted by a road spec gripper LSD at the same time. I find I'm lighting up the tryes with very little effort in the damp.

Not sure speed is accurate. Dyno was calibrated against rpm. Don't think wheel size entered. Done in 4th gear.

Can you tell me what rpm peak power was at? I've picked up a spare motor and gearbox and I'm interested in following a similar spec, 773 cams, CG10DE pistons etc but we'll have to see...
