The fish pond is protected by a pergola and fence with netting yet something has managed to get in and eat some fish including a nice big shiney metallic koi!!!

Herons live very close by but can't see how they would get in through the pergola and be able to take off again with there wing span...

What else can get in to your pond to eat fish?? Its a big pond so can't see it being a cat getting them m from the side...

heron ?

is there an oily film on the surface ?

clever bird if food is involved

they will eat a lot in one sitting

a cat will catch one ,  play with it till it gets bored may eat it or leave it on the side

I no longer keep fish - thanks to Heron's / cats

Believe it or not it was the frogs in our pond that done the deed.

They used to knock the fish out the pound and a cat or summit used to carry them off.

Maybe the other fish?

That was also my thought.... have you introduced any new varieties of fish lately?

Another thought is that fish are opportunistic, they will eat other fish that have died from whatever cause.

I think you're getting Ghost Koi mixed up with Tigers

.....totally different things -Tigers are big & stripey , they can swim but you're unlikely to find them living in your pond, or let's hope not.

I blame Clarkson for this myth that Ghost Koi kill/eat everything, telling everyone that the Ghost Koi he bought massacred the inhabitants of his fathers pond - chances are they all absconded as they thought that he was going to be involved in looking after them.

From what i've read Ghost Koi are no worse than most species as far as 'guppycide' (?) is concerned.

We always had Ghost Koi, never had a problem with other fish even smaller ones.
