How To Remove Fuel Pump

I cannot find the right (or left) approach to undo the bolts of the fuel pump!

DO i need to take the exhaust pipes off???

I have already removed the carb.

What tool is recommended?

Please advice!

I didn't need to, just a standard spanner did it for me, access is tight but not impossible.

think I used a small 1/4" ratchet 11mm socket or ratchet spanner.

Likely to be 7/16th nuts then but 11mm is not correct size. Imperial on classics ... ;-)

It seems to be 12mm but still cannot access it properly.

I am using a small spanner but the 12mm cylinder seems to be too short ...

It should be a 5/16" UNF threaded nut with a spring washer on a stud. 12mm is probably too big or the stud is stopping it from seating properly.

 

If you are going to work on a classic car, you need to invest in the right tools.  You need to get a set of AF spanners (ring and open ended), and probably sockets (3/8" or 1/2" drive).

 

Otherwise you will find all your nuts and bolts will have burred edges and spanners with start to slip, especially the tighter nuts.

Correction ... Mine are 1/2" AF nuts. So a 13mm would be closer but slightly loose. 12mm shoukdn't fit unless the nut or spanner are worn.

Remember the pump is under pressure from the arm. But may still be stuck down via the gasket.

When refitting make sur you get the pump arm on the correct side of the cam lobe.

Thank al of you! I got the pump out.
A mm 11 with a small rattler or whatever you would call it , I added a small flex joint to get some distance.
After removing the firsts bolt there was no tension on the pump. It just started dropping out when I released the second bolt.
What does this imply for refitting on the cam lobe??
How can I see /check that?
The pump does not seem really stuck, moving the handle creates some pressure on the tube ends ....
So now I still have noe explanation why I am not getting fuel to the carb....??
How do I proceed to check this out?

Perhaps the cam is turned away so the side to the pump has no or low tension on the pump arm.

You'll need to check the diaphram inside the pump .. It may be holed reducing the pumping action.

Finally I found the right state of mind and time to get it running again!
Some remarks:
The pump looked ok at first sight... But a friend noticed that the membrane was ok but the small valves in the top plate where broken.
Mounting then replacement was difficult again, I ran into rests of locktite in the settings.
A small incision verbally in the bolt got it out finally.

Is it normal that the pump is noted using Locktite?

I got some electrical problems, posting them separately in a minute.
