Looking good, I'm probably a few weeks ahead with my minus build, mine is been painted next week.attachicon.gifimage.jpegattachicon.gifimage.jpegattachicon.gifimage.jpeg

Thanks for the picture coopermango! Looks amazing mate! Very exciting! I'm hoping to get mine ready for paint early next year at the latest! Very exciting! What colour are you going for?

JB

I finally decided on a metallic dark grey, I will probably start my own thread once I get it back and start to re-assemble it. Quite a bit of the stuff I've already got ready to fit like front and rear subframes (fully built with suspension, engine and powder coated), but not even thought about interior, dash and loom yet.
Thanks kev

Aha well that made me smile! I've not really done much to it since buying it apart from wheels. I plan to strip and rebuild it an area at a time and build it to my standards as it's just a little bit rough in areas. Needs a new loom so will be making my own to modern motorsport spec. Making it a little more ergonomic in the cabin and I am building a 16v a-series for it which may get a turbo, need to decide on space and budget for that one.

Sounds good mate! I'm itching to get mine done! That little car with a 16v would be crazy! Cant wait to see that! You're going to need a big bulge in the bonnet to fit two cams and a turbo though lol. Will you be posting pictures on here or facebook?

Regards

JB

Hi Kev!

Thanks for the reply, dark grey sounds lovely, my brother has a grey 92 spi and its a beautiful colour, called gunmetal grey and it suits the mini very well, I'd love to see a minus in the same colour! seems like you've done most of the hard stuff then mate! Looking forward to seeing a build thread for your minus! Be sure to post a picture once its painted!

JB

Small update. Progress has been slow due to waiting for parts and I have two other projects I'm in the middle of. But as my mk1 rear lights turned up the other day I fitted my fibreglass mk1 panels which I made with the help of a mk1 steel panel...

I may end up just having a bonnet with the rocker cover poking through as I don't really like bulges, that's a hurdle I will get to in the future. Not entirely sure yet where I will post updates I may even make some YouTube videos but most likely on my Instagram and probably on here

Twin cam rocker cover would look cool just sticking out the bonnet I think! Be sure to let me know when and where you post mate!

Hi mm man.

Thanks for the tip! Doors are on order and I'm cutting the windows to size myself. I'm sure the engine will stick a mile out of the bonnet so I'm going to need to maybe tilt the engine forward and move some bits around in the engine bay and have a bonnet bulge to accommodate. I will see when the time comes.

What engine are you planning to use? If its an a-series you should only need a bulge for the carburettor dash pot. My bonnets only got a small tear drop bulge for the carb as everything else sits low enough (Just).

The bulge in the standard minus bonnet is for the oil filler cap only if you change rocker covers or carbs / air cleaners you will need to modify

Cutting windows to size ?? One of the only things that don't need modifying / cutting is the windows ?( this was one of the original selling points made by the mini minus motor company ) They did make a mk 1 & mk2 rear quarter window version of the minus I seem to remember ( tip use the later fatter screen rubbers much better seal ) you can use std window winder mechanisms with std glass . It's every thing from the windows down to modify ie dash ...seats ....doors plus trims......door frames ...centre console it all depends on what finish you are going for .......it's all the fun of owning a minus

Hi Alex,

Yeah I have an a series for it. 1293 MED turbo:) thanks for the advice. I'd better leave the bonnet until I test fit the engine to make sure exactly what I need!

Ah I see what you mean now, thing is as my car is a lightweight/track car, I haven't got any of those bits, my windows are going to be bolted in the frames and all windows will be polycarbonate so that's why I said cut them to size.

Regards
JB
