I've got a rotational metal on metal sound coming from the front right of my car. It happens when the wheel is turned slightly to the left and also under braking (more noticeable under braking usually). I recently had the front right CV boot replaced as it had a split in it (it hadn't been split for long and i had it immediately replaced when i discovered it) so was wondering it it was the CV joint? I know that my brake pads are fine as that was my first thought when the noise first appeared when braking. It's my daily driver too and from school so any help much appreciated!

Could be the brake pad retaining plate or the CV joint(although these usually click)

A stone in the stone guards, the big bit of metal that stops stones from getting into the brake discs.

it may seem daft, but check the metal cv boot securing clip has been trimmed off flush and not rubbing inside the hub casting

CV seating in the Bearings and the Nut correctly Torqued?

Have you checked the pads have any material on them ?

If its a trapped stone, sometimes reversing briskly and a dab on the brakes will dislodge it.

You may want to check the preload in hub bearings; when they wear, the preload reduces, and can cause the drive flange to wobble about, and scrape on the stoneguard.

As can worn CV and or worn hub.
