Theres a nylon cup that sits in the upper suspension arm that the ball on the end of the trumpet sits in. If it wears out then it allows the suspension to drop (quite a lot due to its position on the arm) If you had the donuts and trumpets out it was really false economy not to change them.

Thanks. I dont even remember seeing a nylon cup in there. If that was the problem would it make that much difference to the ride height? the wheel is pretty much touching the arch.

It would be about 25 to 40mm difference

The rubber dust cover should attach to the nylon cup so it should be easy to see if it's in there.
Would make a bit of a drop as it's near the inside of the 'lever' so to speak... 1mm there makes an inch at the end...

I'll definitely check that out thanks, only thing that makes me think it was there is that it was sitting ok/better on the old Donut. I'm still thinking it's the Donut, is it possible it could be faulty or are they pretty fail safe?

Depends where you got them? You probably got both from the same place and at the same time right? Could you take it out and compare with the old one?
There are some out there that fail quite quickly (500km or so) but never heard of one that collapsed on fitting...
Must be French...

Hahaha. Yea bought both together at same time. First port of call is the nylon cup I think, try and get everything lifted back up!! Third time lucky hopefully!! If that fails I might just chuck the old cone back in.

Like I said pictures.

Of the parts not the car.

Without seeing the bits and how they go together comments can not really mean much.

Also, even if the cup is in there if the (not visible) base of it is shagged out, then you will get the same drop. If you are getting all the tools out again, I would change both cups anyway, really is false economy not to do so

So from this you can see its pretty unlikely the trumpet can get further up the donut

They can be pigs to hook out sometimes, a hot airgun helps.

But not too hot .... I used acetylene some years ago and it really didn't work well at all, but a hot air gun as Chopperharris says is the way to go, it only softens the plastic making it possible to pull it out, hopefully/
