Post up an image of the routing at the fail area.

This is how I did mine. Can you put some photos of your pedal on as from memory the nipple on the mini cable should run concentric to the cable?

So it failed at the retaining clip

The nipple in the picture below was immediately after the retaining clip. The nipple is still attached to the cable.

I would have thought you need a in line nipple like the one in the link?

SO the narrower part would actually insert into the pedal?

It's more a case of the orientation of the barrel. The one you have looks like the cable comes through the outer diameter of the barrel.
What you need is the cable coming through the end (centre).

Difficult to explain without diagrams or photos!

Appears like  I have totally misunderstood the function of the slot in the pedal and the retaining clip.

I thought the cable nipplle/stop should protrude out of the retaining clip. Looking at my old cable seems like the nipple actually sits in the slot and clip just "retains" it.

No wonder it rubbed through.

So I have a couple of options.

The first is to use this method with a new universal cable: ( I would but the adjustable nipple on the throttle body side). I assume this will work, unless anyone can see any issues? I think this is what Mcmini was suggesting

Or I use my old cable with the original cable stop ( I would but the adjustable nipple on the throttle body side)

Or do what I did. cut up a scotch block and got the tiny clamp out of it to use that. similar to a carb part to hold the choke on a standard mini

What does the cable connection at the throttle body look like?

Your first photo will not work properly as the clip will not hold the nipple into the slot and counterbore on the pedal.

The universal cable supplied with SC stuff is rubbish.

I remade the cable mount on my throttle body to take a standard MPI cable.

The throttle body side takes the barrel shaped nipple, The "non solder" one I have fits in.

And yes to your second point - that was the issue with the cable that rubbed through. The nipple wasn't held in the slot, instead the clip merely stopped the nipple coming through.

Before the cable snapped I have thought about making a mount for the throttle body side, to ease the path of the cable. It was working fine (up until it snapped), I will look at this again.

Craig, you don't seem to be getting any luck mate. I'm no where near this stage on my build, but it's good you have pointed this out, will be taking a look at mine. I also made a new bracket for the routing from the throttle body, might look at fitting a longer cable, as the standard SPI cable is to short to reach round to the front.

The way I see it these things are of course gonna happen, it is my first build, there are lots of parts together which were never intention to be together  and i the build is just over its form 1000km.

So I aint disheartened. I am glad it happened only 5km from home

So throttle cable fixed. In the end I used the old cable from the SPI engine, this meant IK could use the standard nipple at the pedal end. That nipple is now held in the pedal, instead of acting as a stop (which is probably why it wore through)  I added a screw on nipple at the throttle body side, The pedal feel has never been so good. and the throttle bodies snap back very cleanly,
