And the double socks fit ok? I liked the look of the mesh ones as they didn't seem as bulky. The double socks look ok too. Maybe I'll go for those if they seem to be less restrictive. Maybe I'll just bore some holes in the bonnet. Haha.

hi craig,

just spent a good hour catching up on the updates, ive been busy sorting my conversion the past couple of months, and now im finally ready to drop the new engine in.  I have some filter socks but like you i think they will be too big and bulky in the back of the bonnet.
Im debating drilling a few holes in my bonnet too. so would be good to know if you do go through with it.

where did you source the mesh covers for your trumpets, they look loads better.

dom

So the mesh filters arrived today, was bit of a squeeze even fitting them. I will see if i can test the different filters at the rolling road.

Hi Mate!

I learned that the single socks aren't too good since they don't leave any space around the mouth of the trumpet.
The mesh covers also appear not t be the best, due to as i understand the level of turbulence they create. I got them from either merlin motorsport or demon tweaks.

I am running the ram air double socks. These are real cheap approx 25 pounds for two. I tried these on the rolling road and only lost 2 hp.

Wow just spent the last two days reading this from the start, great work, looks like a real good job. Wish I had the time/money to have a play around with something like this!

Believe it or not but the original BMW spark plug cover is really hard to find. High school level German helped me find one on German ebay.

Not to everyones taste but I enjoy the nod to where the head came from:

I found what could best be described as "black rubber dust"  :shades: on the cam pulleys.

i immediately thought the worst and assumed the cam belt was rubbing.

Turns out the upper breather pipe was rubbing the fan.

You really aren't playing with a lot of room at the cambelt end  on these conversions.

rerouted the pipe and all fixed now.

Questioning my choice of FD. I went for a 3.2fd ( a small part of me suspects that there might be a 3.4 in there),

Gave the car a good run today and it quite easily revved just below the rev limiter (7200rpm) in 4th

Clutch slip? Must be doing some with a 3.2 to run out of revs

7000 revs with a 3.2 in 4th would give 129 mph. I suppose the question is, did it feel like 129 mph?

6800 revs on a 3.4 would give approx 115mph.

mmm...

I have written this before but at 5000rpm  my GPS reads 84mph (which is bang on for a 3.4) speedo is about 10 - 15mph slower.

Only thing to do I guess is have the speedo adjusted.

I can see why there may be a 3.4 in there. I did change my mind with the supplier a fair bit..

5000 with a 3.4 is 86mph so it looks like you've got a 3.4.

See your very first post.

Drop John a mail I am sure he will confirm what was fitted.

Or just do the pushing along the floor in 4th trick, counting how many engine revs for one wheel rev.
