Did you sort the emissions?

Not quite.

I was informed that because it was a new ECU, I had to "switch" on the narrow band Lamba control on. Would have been great to know that before I wasted my time and money at the test centre.

The Lambda control is now activated, but some parameters don't seem to be correct, so that car hardly runs. I will need SC to connect to my laptop remotely and set them correctly.

The MOT tester also demanded I have a sound test certificate. I don't have that. The original tester who approved  the engine swap etc could not find a suitable place for the test close to me. Since it was not going to be an issue to pass it the sound test, we didn't think the MOT tester would need it. So I need to fix that.

Sounds like a royal pain in the bum, especially when you need to keep the MOT man on side so that he passes it.

I had my MOT last week. Now my issues aren't as complex as yours put I had it done whilst I was out the country on business. Phoned him Friday morning to ask if it was done and thankfully it was with a pass. Good I thought! But to pass it he needed to fit reflectors to the back of my car as it didn't have any in the lights (after market lens fitted).. Ok no big deal... Turns out he has screwed two cheap reflectors into my mud flaps. So they are now ruined. And the mini has been mot by them for past two years not having any reflectors (and no mention of them missing either). Not happy, but that life

Unfortunately the engine still isn't  running. SC remotely took over the my laptop but we hit a deadend. From what they could see the car should have started.

I checked for spark today (as requested by SC) and I have no spark for some reason.

Really must be an ECU / mapping issue, since I drove the car right up to the point of activating the lambda.

Ahh mate, gutted for you. All I can say is check and double check. Look on forums for similar issues (I know you probably have already). I had an issue with my car after doing some upgrades and the car wouldn't run. So could not use over summer, stipped engine, hrs of pi##ing about, £250 on a rolling road. Eventually found it was a 50p gasket without the right hole in it. You'll get there

Clutching at straws I know, but check the timing sensor is still centered and within 1mm of the trigger wheel.

Well spent the afternoon cleaning the spark plugs triple checking all connections took the new spot lights off to gain access to the trigger wheel ( not the quickest task).

And still nothing.

Just as I was leaving the garage, I saw the SPI relay pack, which I had previously taken off as the lambda heater was constantly on and drained the battery.

A last gasp effort I thought but I connected it. The car fired immediately and it doesn't appear to be draining the battery.

Hey Craig, I've read through end to end to see if I could find out what coolant hoses you used. Are they off the shelf ones? I don't have a heater in my car (and it looks like you have) and want to put one back, so will need to switch the hoses out. Hope you don't mind me asking. Thanks.

Hi Rithie, the 25mm silicon coolant hoses are just of the shelf sections and joiners.

Arghhhhhhh!

So after switching back to the Spi relay the battery is totally drained again. I assume due to the lambda heater as before.

Not sure what is up. History of the issue.

- Spi relay supplies a permanent live to most sensors including the lambda sensor heater. Car runs.

- I switch to an Mpi relay box and it solves the drain and the car runs. no issues.

- Car fails MOT on émissions.

- I find that the lambda sensor wasn't actually activated

- I active the lambda car doesn't run or runs for a second or two

- SC remotely look at the mapping and can't see any reason why to won't start. they suspect no spark.

- right enough! no spark.

- I switch back to the SPI relay box and the car fires immedietly, lambda sensor is working but battery drains.

Pretty frustrating.

where do yours run though? On mine I've got the SC thermostat with takeoff. The takeoff goes straight to an old style bottom hose that feeds into the block. I don't suppose you have any photos (cheeky ask). I'm off to mini fair tomorrow and want to pick up some hoses. Thanks in advance.
