Quick question on the dry deck. In some of the early block pics it looks like the original head oil feed is still open in the block headgasket face. Did you leave it like this?

yip in the pictures it appears so. It is blocked off, the steel just looks a little darker.

The wiring is driving me mad.

Spent hours searching for the drain today. Strip the SC loom back and traced each wire. I narrowed the problem down to both the white wire and the purple&blue wire on the relay module, which were both permanent live. The white wire runs to  the throttle position sensor and to each injector all of which were receiving 12v. The purple blue wire ran to the lambda sensor. Turns out that was the drain (the lambda heater).

So the issue is obviously the relays being energized and supplying the lamda heater. the white wire may also be the same issue. So apart from these two wires there are 3 thicker brown wires running to the relay pack which are permanent 12v. These I assume are energizing various coils inside the relay pack. I will trace these back tomorrow. but I think they all run to the starter solenoid positive stud. I now wonder if this should be a switched feed?

it is definitely an issue with something on the SC loom as i made sure everything lease was disconnected.

Well the car past the inspection to be registered as a modified car today.

A very extensive test  - 2 hours 30 minutes and a very long test drive and an exhaustive brakes test.

Even If I wasn't driving it was great to get the car out on the road.

Next up a normal MOT.

Well after chasing around this battery drain issue and having SC have me test various wires and connectors, without any progress.

I decided I would just try a MPI relay module. turns out a freelander part shares the same number as the MPI unit, so it only cost about a tenner. Many thanks for the Part number ANDYR.

Anyway it seems to have resolved the issue. I will find out when the correct ECU arrives from SC.

Hi Craig, been reading your build thread, it's fantastic mate. I've just started my Twincam build so it's been great to see all the problems/pitfalls you've encountered (A bloody lot of cursing on your part by the looks of it). By reading it, I have already got a few questions to ask SC.

Cheers Craig,
Spoke to John at SC today, regarding the piston orientation, just aswell I read your thread, I had put the Pistons with the large cut out to the inlet, turns out, its the small cut out to the inlet due to the offset. I was also asking John what they use to seal the head studs in, both of us agreed on loctite 542, what did you use?

Good catch with the piston orientation!

I used a thread sealant I bought from the hardware store in the village i live in. Wasn't Loctite can't remember the brand  but the bottle is the same size and shape.

I can say I almost used thread lock, until i re read the guide. Thats when I ran down to the store.

The Delta 400 Ecu arrived from SC and it has solved the temp gauge issue.

Not sure why but the throttle cable is playing up again. doesn't return fully despite working perfectly two weeks ago.

I will need do have something similar i guess.

The original MPI spring must have mounted to an additional bracket (car end)?

Don't know. I just drilled a hole under the dash. Even though it really shows in the pic, you can barely see it when seated
