Our family daily driver is a 2.0 DiD Outlander Elegance with the VAG engine and a standard Bhp of 140, and 283 Nm of torque, i decided that an economy remap would perhaps enhance the already decent mpg.

A work colleague recommended a friend of his who, carries out remaps so, i booked it in last Saturday morning and two hours later was presented with a 183 bhp, 400Nm of torque beast ( put it on a r/r one hour after remap to check it ) which has amazed me.

Not only does it go like the clappers but it is returning approximately 5 mpg more than it did before..... chuffed to bits  :D

My VW Transporter's the same, I got it remapped and now it has 50 more horses and roughly 7 or 8ish more MPGs. Lovely :-)

Is the reliability compromised with these re-maps?

Thought about it with my octavia 4x4 as wanted to achieve my 59mpg without having to tiptoe everywhere like i am doing at present.

I am really pleased Graeme, was slightly sceptical about the remap jobby but my mate who is a mechanic persuaded me on his understanding about the job, the guy who does it lives in Morecambe so it is handy.

He is a nice guy ( he works for LTS as a mechanic ) who talks you through the remap step by step, takes the car out to see if all,s well then gets you to drive it while he is the passenger to see if your happy, he will reverse the remap to bog standard if your not happy with it but stated no one has to date.

It does make a hell of difference, i for one am astounded at the performance all round.... well worth it for £180.00. He is going on his own shortly so prices will obviously go up.

The reliability is not compromised, just slightly upgrading a standard manufacturers ecu, i went for the " Economy remap " to be safe  which still increased the Bhp by 53 horses and it does give me more mpg.

I would do it again if i changed motors.

I'll ge it some thought, it's weighing it up against the VW warranty that takes the thinking.

My older Golf gives 60mpg+ but the newer one struggles to get to 50mpg. Yes it has more power, but if I'm not using that power I expect the economy to be similar, not 20% down when pottering around.

The bluefin on my tdci Fiesta ZS was one of the best buys on it, such a massive difference.

+40ish bhp, shed loads more torque, and now hitting low 60's over a poor 49mpg.. :D

Plus with a bluefin its reversable in 3 minutes..

My Mitsubishi is out of warranty so was not a problem, but insurance wise i was tempted to contact my insurers just to see if it was a heavy modification but, after driving it i may give that one a miss.... :gimme:

The only thing to worry about mechanically is the dual mass flywheel. Driven normally you should be fine on the VAG engine. Giving it beans all the time may cause issues. We looked at the DMF on my lads Skoda VRS which had been mapped to 170 when the gearbox was blown. It was also shot. Now was it down to the previous owner who remapped it we will never know but the gearbox blew it's internals big time and the DMF was bad.

A workmate has mapped his tdi Golf to 170 and fitted a solid flywheel Assy with no issues. Oh and 270k on the clock

Don't forget your insurance!  My policy had an option on the website form for remapping, not all will though.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that a lot of the issues solved by remapping are due to the cars being set up to run on a wide range of fuels of varying octanes. As we can be relatively sure of fuel quality they can be mapped to take account of decent fuel. If you were to use the car for regular overseas trips through Eastern Europe for instance it may be an issue but otherwise I wouldn't think there would be issues if it's done sensibly.

I was really impressed with the remap on my audi a4 2.0T Quattro. I also added a downpipe.

From 191HP and 312NM to 272HP / 391NM

I would remap my next car if i change.
