Just wondering whether any one can advise in connection with an MOT certificate error?  After several months of preparation I got my mini through the MOT on Monday with no advisories.  All good to that point, but the MOT test station put in the wrong odometer reading on the certificate - 30,000 miles rather than 3,000.  The odometer went through the 100,000 mark and back to zero in the last couple of years.  So, they have kindly added 27,000 miles to the car's history.

Frustratingly this happened with the previous owner last year - 16,000 miles recorded rather than 1600 - but in this case a new certificate was issued with the correct mileage, although the incorrect mileage still sits on DVLA records.  A second consecutive amendment to the mileage isn't going to look good.

The current MOT certificate was issued Monday, I spotted the mistake Tuesday and went to the test station to raise it yesterday (Wednesday).  Is there any way the test station can remove the incorrect mileage completely from the MOT history?  How long do they have to correct the mistake - presumably a few days?

The test station isn't be too helpful and suggested that they weren't sure how to amend an error 'under the new system' (?)

Can anyone advise on what I / the test station should do to correct the error without it becoming a permanent feature of the car's history?  Thanks

The simple answer is go back and get them to re issue the correct certificate, it is against the law to "clock" a motor vehicles odometer, they are liable but you only have a maximum of seven days before it is "fixed" for up to 3 years, (3 years MOT certificates are kept on DVLA's computer.

Pretty much as above. I had a test centre mistype my mileage a couple of years ago, a genuine typo.  Noticed it quickly as you have done and took it back, the centre issued a corrected certificate no problem.

Its there problem, so ask them to find out how to rectify it. If they cannot or will not, contact VOSA directly and inform them of the situation.

The MOT station has a duty to ensure they are registering correct details on the VOSA MOT system.

I've been working away from home this week but going in again today. I really can't see what the problem is and as I understand it the 'new' system is a couple of years old? Will update later.

Their reason does sound like a cop out...

This is turning into a real hassle.  Dropped into the test station this afternoon, they still claim - after four days - they don't know what to do and will look into it.  I don't understand why I'm being fobbed off which makes me concerned that there is something more to this.  Tried phoning DVLA when I got home and couldn't get through to the right department before close of play.

DVLA look after the registration and vehicle details.

VOSA regulate MOT Stations, you should contact VOSA as they will be able to advise and even contact the mot station to instruct them on this.

Thanks Jordie, you're right it was VOSA I was trying to contact.

(For anyone who might be in a similar situation VOSA's number for mot enquiries is 0300 123 9000 Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6pm)

I finally got things sorted after a polite but firm request yesterday. It was sorted in a few minutes. Thanks for everyone's advice.
