In the process of an engine rebuild and am going to buy a new camshaft however im not sure what one to get, basically i want decent power but not to have too much of a ruff idle as i will be daily driving the car.

 

Engine specs will be

1293cc

fully ported head

double valve springs

1.5:1 rockers

vernier timing.

 

The ones ive looked at so far are kent cams 266, 276 and 286 but wasnt too sure what to get.

 

any help would be appreciated, and any more info needed just ask

you don't need BHP you want torque that is what gives you the push in the back.

 

of those the 276 is what I would consider but there are others out there.

 

Oh and make sure the valve springs are suitable for the cam. and do you really need 1:1.5 rockers? that don't do much. and less for what you really need.

Another vote for AC Dodds cams. He and Andy at ML Motorsport recently built a fantastic resleeved 1275 for me with an RS+ cam & stage 3 head. Slightly lumpy idle, but would just about be bearable as a daily driver. It sounds like his RS cam profile would suit your build, but as Nicklouse says 1.5 rockers aren't needed. 1.3s would better suit.

I've got the descriptions etc on my laptop.

 

The RS will produce up to 95ftlb of torque depending on set up

What you want to do with the car will decide which is the best cam.  You don't say so no-one can really suggest.

I did post on here how to select a cam by deciding how it is to be driven then looking at the cam graphs to see which one is closest to what is required.
So, for example, if you don't want to be regularly using over 6200 rpm then a 277 cam is not for you as it gives peak power at 6100 rpm.
You need to be a bit technical about this
I was once asked to evaluate a 1275 which had been fitted with a 649 cam, but the owner seemed shocked when I took it to 6500 rpm
I pointed out that if he was not going to be using those sort of revs then it was over-cammed.

Look at the Kent Cams on-line catalogue which has the actual cam graphs
For smooth road driving you need good torque rather thanaxis power.
Do you want to be revving to over 6000 a lot of the time? If not then go for something like a Kent 266, an SW5, or similar. Thr 276 is good, but needs a lot of revs to perform as designed

Oh cool thanks. Where can I get prices for the ac dodd cams and where can I get them from, couldn't find a website from his Facebook page.

And the reason I had only looked at Kent cams was cause I have found that they do kits that have valve springs, cam followers and cam lube
