Indicator/wiper Stalk Assembly

I need to change the indicator/wiper stalk assembly as when I indicate in the dark my lights go out as it sort of bends and goes between dipped and high beam. And the wiper stalk just falls out unless you push it in as you use it.
I haven't seen the part exactly as I haven't taken the wheel off (also any advice on that?). I'm positive I saw it last year as 1 piece but I can't seem to find it now. What part(s) do I need for this?
Thanks,
Corey

As Steve has pointed out, they are supplied in two pieces.
IMO, they were never brilliantly made and less so these days. I wouldn't waste my time fitting a second hand one, it will only be a very short space of time before you'll be looking for another.

Personally I'd buy two used instead of one new!... Bought a new indicator stalk and the self cancel has stopped working within 6 months!
Then take it back and request a new one, 12 month guarantee?
Wouldn't bother with second hand, never know if you're inheriting someone else's knackered one.

I could but then I'd need to strip it, which means getting the tracking set again...

Why does an indicator switch change the tracking ??

On 1989 to 1996 , these self cancelling type of stalk, which has a clamp which tightens around the column behind the steering wheel, it cannot be removed without removing the steering wheel first....

Removing the steering wheel doesn't alter the tracking.... just point the wheels straight ahead, remove the wheel, replace the switch, refit wheel.
That's what I do, however when I checked the tracking it was at 2°....I set it at 0.7° so it was a fair bit out... Although not the worst I've seen

Put some nail varnish across the wheel boss, nut and shaft centre before removing the wheel, slip it back on and line the lines up,tightening the nut up to the line will also get the wheel nut torque fairly close too.

Glad i'm not the only one that isn't understanding what he means. How I earth can removing the wheel after the tracking? Worst case scenario would be the wheel doesn't sit right when going straight.

Back to the op's query though, get 2 new ones (make sure you match what year your car is to the stalks, there are different types depending on the age of your car) Set your wheels straight ahead, as above if needed mark where the wheel sits, whip it off. Whip off column surround, replace both stalks. Test both stalks work, refit column surround and steering wheel (aligning marks if you made them). Take it for a spin and check the self cancel, job done !
(No disrespect to cal, but ignore what he says about tracking, the steering wheel has nothing to do with it)
