Hi guys! I have been changing lots of times the petrol cap and none of them sort perfectly well. Does anyone have some tips to make it no lose fuel?

Thanks

Are you sure the issue is with the fuel cap its self and not a corroded sealing face on the tank?

If the surface is heavily pitted then it is possible that no fuel cap will seal it properly.

It does seem to seal perfectly but if I complete the tank it loses some when I turn fast in a corner

Are you sure its coming from the fuel cap and not over flowing via the breather ?

I tried all the ones that I could find and for me, they all leaked when cornering, the worst for this were the locking caps, but even the non-locked leaked lots. I gave up on them all and fitted a 2" BSPP Threaded 'nipple' to the tank and modified some brass screw on caps to go on them. I did have to re-work the rubber gasket, mainly how they were held in the cap, but they don't leak a drop now.

Can you help me sorting this out? I mean some easy explanation, my language is not english so some things get difficult for me

Thanks a lot

Hey Agustin,

All the standard caps fit with just 1/4 of a turn, though that's not necessarily the problem with them, but they just don't seem to come down tight enough on the neck of the tank.

What I was saying, is that I have cut them off and fitted a threaded pipe fitting on to the tank and have a screw on cap that has a rubber seal in it.

While they don't look quite as nice as the normal cap and not quite as quick to use, they don't leak at all.
