I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am half way through stripping down a 1275gt gearbox, I have so far followed the haynes manual to aid the order of the strip down. I am trying to remove the 3rd motion bearing, it says to knock the main shaft until there is an inch between the bearing and first gear to gain access to punch out the bearing. I can only get 1/4 of an inch max, the selector folks seem to be stopping the gears from moving down to allow access. Any ideas?

Rod Shift Box?  The Selector Shaft and Interlock Spool will likely be fouling the Bell Crank Levers. Look in through where the diff usually goes.

<Edit: To get them in a postion where the don't foul, you probably need to knock the shaft back to get the pressure off the Bell Cranks, then pull the Selector Shaft along with the Interlock Spool out as far as they will go. >

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a rod shift box apologies. I shall give that a go and see if it helps. Do I then need to put the bell cranks into a neutral position? And will this allow the selectors to move along with the main shaft of gearsome? Thanks

I have tried your advice and still seems to be the same. The 1st and 2nd speed selector seems to be pressing up against bell crank dog when I try to push it across to get more room between the 1st gear and bearing to remove.

(Just looked online at a video and it seems that the dog has come out of the 1st and 2 selector as I said above. Any ideas of how to over come this?)

I assume you have dislocated the selector interlock spool from the bell crank levers, now pull the rod and selector interlock as far out as they will go which will remove any interference with the bell crank levers and therefore forks...

you then use a special tool push the bearing out..

Finally managed to get the bearing off. Looks like the gear selection had been put together incorrectly, as I bought it as an unfinished project. Just took a bit of persuasion and patience. Thanks for the information anyhow.
