Top Steering Column Bush

Need to change the top steering column bush on my 72 850, just wondered if it is a fairly simple job, assume the column has to come out? Cheers Mart.

Yes the Column needs to come off and be split down. Replace the lower one as well. On yours it will be felt so soak it in oil before fitting.

Suspect mine is bad too, as column creaks and is a bit stiff to turn, is it worth replacing the clamp bolt at the bottom? Great pics!!!

Check the bolt for any thread damage and it will pay you to replace the stiff nut if it does not self tighten on the bolt. The one picture i did not take was of me removing the core of the column unfortunately.

Yes, the inner pulls out the bottom of the outer.

 

Check the splines on the inner column and rack for any damage
