Hello All,

I am currently in the process of stripping and treating the underside (scraping back old waxoyl and underseal etc).

I am pleased to say that the underside is in good condition, a mixture of original paint, metal and some surface rust – I plan to wire brush and remove any loose materials and I plan to use the POR15 process on the sub frames and treat any surface rust with an inhibitor.

I would then like to cover or protect the whole lot with something similar to the original rubberized underseal I have come across Tetrosyl Tetra Schutz (http://classiccarpai...l-tetra-schutz/) and seems to fit the bill – can you confirm if it would be OK for my plans?

Would it adhere well to the mixture of surfaces – I will give the surfaces a 'key' prior to application.

Oh an unfortunately I do not have access to a compressor so an aerosol seems convenient.

Thanks in advance

I will of course be waxoyling inside any box sections etc.

I am sure there will be a wealth of different opinions and I can only be of limited help. I have recently redone one of ours with tetra Schultz and am pleased with how it went on, did use a small compressor, how it dried and the overall finish. I then used wax oil over the finish as added protection. So although I have used it and am pleased with it it has not been on long enough and subjected to a lot of use so I cannot say yet how it will hold up.

Thanks RedRuby, my car isn't a daily and only gets used on dry days so absolute protection isn't a major factor - I just want a dry surface that will protect and look nice'ish.  Did you go clear or black waxoyl over the top?

I have used that particular brand and had good results. My choice though is Gravitex. This went on far better i thought than Tetrosyl.

Who makes Gravitex and can you get it as an aerosol?

Not 100% sure about that. I normally use it in 1ltr containers and a schutz gun.

Superb Sonikk - I assume that the Gravi-Guard is the same as Gravitex just in Aersol form.

I have just spoken with U-Pol technical department who confirm that Gravitex and Gravi-Gard are indeed the same product.

I have decided to give that a go.  Thanks

I use Tetra Schultz everytime and have had very good results from long term use... goes on easy and sticks to anything - wet or dry or covered in oil and grease... the only thing is its a bit 'spitty' when exiting the aerosol and gets everywhere... but if you use it - make sure to mask off everything that you dont want covering in the stuff, as its a B~~~~~d to remove afterwards...

Thanks Minifreek - I will indeed mask up and also cover myself well!

The whole cleaning and sorting the underside isn't a clean job but I have to say its nice getting to know my new mini intimately :)

I have used Tetra Schultz spayed it in all the usual hard to reach areas with a compressor and gun, six years later looking good although its not a daily driver
