Later cars had side impact bars too so there is another difference.
Although these doors would fit Mk3 onwards.
If you have your door re-skinned, this is a better option than a second hand door as although it may appear solid, you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be rust in the seams between the skin and frame.
A brand new door is also very expensive so re-skinning is more cost effective.

Every Mini is slightly different so your original door might fit well and have nice even gaps all round, but you might find that the replacement doesn't...
In this case, shims are your friend, that and perhaps a bit of muscle to twist the door slightly to make the fit even
Even minis with there original doors from the factory were never a perfect fit to start with, as on the production line they used 'tweak' each shell to fit each individual door. If you measured the door aperture, they probably wouldn't even be the same on both sides of the same car.
