Later cars had side impact bars too so there is another difference.

Although these doors would fit Mk3 onwards.

If you have your door re-skinned, this is a better option than a second hand door as although it may appear solid, you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be rust in the seams between the skin and frame.
A brand new door is also very expensive so re-skinning is more cost effective.

I am buying a reconditioned, primed, re-skinned mk 3 door.
However, someone mentioned that not all mini doors are the same, so I am hoping it will fit my 1984 mini.

They could have also meant that a door from another Mini even if the same type may not fit well.

Every Mini is slightly different so your original door might fit well and have nice even gaps all round, but you might find that the replacement doesn't...

In this case, shims are your friend, that and perhaps a bit of muscle to twist the door slightly to make the fit even

Even minis with there original doors from the factory were never a perfect fit to start with, as on the production line they used 'tweak' each shell to fit each individual door. If you measured the door aperture, they probably wouldn't even be the same on both sides of the same car.

I picked up a pair of reskinned doors from a failed project at what I thought was a good price. The fit was terrible. I ended up just using the drivers side, even then I ended up addingg 3.4 mm welding rod to 2x sides. I,m convinced no 2 mini doors are the same size.

I sell the odd re skinned door when i have time and always say to any buyers you will more than likely have to tweak things around. Now the gapping issues could be down to the skin or the actual door which is why i always ask when somebody has an issue "is the door a second hand one"

The Mini Special i did last year i re skinned the doors with Heritage skins and had to add metal to the edges to get a nice even gap. I did the same to my lads car and i will be doing the same to Paddys doors as well.

Just to add the usual caveat to the sweeping statement "all internal hinged doors are the same", they aren't..
Elf and Hornet internal hinged doors look the same from the outside and are nominally the same shape, but the door locks and hinges are very different indeed.

It's always best to get your own doors repaired and reskinned rather than attempting to get an off-the-shelf door to fit the aperture.  It's much easier to line up the skin and tweak it accordingly before it has been folded and welded to the frame.

It's also better to re-skin your original doors (even if more expensive), even if that does mean the additional repairs to the bottoms and then building the car round them. That way decent panel fit with the rear quarters and a panels will be a lot easier to achieve, than replacing panels and then trying to get cheaper second-hand doors to fit afterwards.
