Best Answer eean , 19 December 2015 - 07:28 PM

All sorted, bought some anti silicone additive, 50mls 7 quid, gave it 2 thick coats no problems then flatted back as there were a few marks from the steel itself showing so then gave it a final top coat, looks very nice, thanks to all who gave advice, cheers have a great Christmas ☺ Go to the full post

I'd agree, but I bare metalled the boot lid, used the exact same stuff and sprayed em both at the same time after degreasing with the same rag etc so I'm baffled lol as there's nothing wrong with that

Should have used anti silicone addertive, you still have silicone in the primer coat.

How though if he has taken it back to bare metal?

There wouldn't be any primer on it to have Silicone in it.

I would say the contamination is from elsewhere in this case.

I can't figure out where from, brand new compressor with 200 litre tank, always drain it, always drain regulator, new hose and have painted inside and outside of shell, doors and bonnet and boot lid, only bonnet has had problems with aforementioned warning from previous owner re his shell fisheyeing, I can only presume the actual steel had become impregnated with oil or silicone contamination, there's hardly any fisheye now it has been thick coated, its really strange, Ill topcoat it after work tomorrow and fingers crossed it should be ok

Have seen it many times in the paint shops, you flat the primer down and reprime and it looks like the fish eyes have gone then you put the colour coat on and more fish eyes.
only 2 solutions, either barcoat it or use anti silicone addative in all the paints.

Could I add anti silicone for the top coat then?

As it's that cheap I am surprised they don't add the additive as standard.
