I bought my mini from a mini trader/garage/parts supplier who I will not name and shame just yet

He had no v5 for it but said he would get a new one and send it on to me

He knew I was buying the vehicle to restore for my daughter

I have now received v5 and hpi checked it and it comes up with a Scarapped vehicle marker on it

I have just emailed him telling him to sort it out, in case it is an error from dvla

What more can I do before I name and shame him and pay him a visit

Have you got a written receipt stating that he would supply the V5c? Without it you bought a car with no documents and without doing a hpi check, £2.99 text would have shown the car as scrap before you took it away.

When you say scrapped how have you got a v5? Do you mean its cat c or d? Unless you can prove that the seller stated otherwise that is your department to check I'm affraid, buyer beware! :-(

He applied for a v5 and sent it on to me I now have it

The vehicle didn't come up on it before but does now i have v5, when I ran a check it comes up as vehicle recored dvla scapped marker on condition report register

The trader is a fairly well known guy who sells at most of the big meets and sells online

I am giving him benefit of the doubt for now

If It was just registered off the the road it would be declared SORN, not scrapped. :tumble: I'm fairly certain you need to fill out the scrapped section on the V5 document, then send it off. I don't understand how this could have been done by mistake. O_O  >_<

Did you get a receipt? I can't see how he can sort it out? Refund you and take it away to be crushed? Have you done any work yet?

I dont understand the v5c situation do you?

Have they just sent you a copy in the old keepers name or in your name but scrapped?

V5 is in my name all as should be with no mention of being scrapped
but on hpi checker it comes up As dvla scrapped marker
no real work done to vehicle
but plenty of parts bought to start repairing in the spring

I'd speak to the dvla, might have already been released from being scrapped? As you are now the registered keeper you will need to do the ringing around I'd guess. Other people have managed to sort them out but now the dvla local offices have gone I would think it willbe harder than others on the net suggest with threads from 2007 etc.

I'm thinking it got sent for scrap and someone saved it from the crusher? Hopefully it can be removed and you can get on with the project.

after a bit of research on the web i found a post that is a way of checking for free and is pretty acurate apparantly

go onto Auto trader and start an advert if you put in car reg details it brings up if it is cat d c etc under the advert, and you can check by finding a cat d listed car on ebay enter its details

i tried this mine comes up clear but if i check a cat d listed audi A6 it comes up as cat d

hopefully mine is clear, just an error i dont think the dealer is dodgy but who knows

Calling the DVLA is the only way you'll know for sure. Sounds like an admin error to me, I shouldn't worry too much.

I can't imagine dvla issuing a V5c on a scrapped car.

Then again, they are a public sector organisation
