Remove filter and pipe you have now connect it with suitable size pipe in a curve to the connection blocked off with the screw above the float bowl

Should I replace the tappet cover with breather or can I continue to use the one currently on there?  What is inside and can I clean it or renew it?

Yes, you can remove the cover to clean it out if you like. I recently did mine and loads of crud came out of it, so it is worth doing....just remember to replace the gasket and rubber bolt seal whilst you're at it to prevent any future oil leaks.

I think the OP was also wondering if he should fit a vented rocker cover, I would not claim to know this one way or the other for sure, however I think probably not - I think I have read before that a vented rocker cover isn't very effective and can cause issues due to the oil splash going on around the valves / rocker gear causing oil to end up getting up the breather. Others may be more knowledgable about this and may care to comment.

I think he meant both O_O

Anyways, don't fit a vented rocker. The oil filler cap has a small vent that lets just enough air in reduce the pressure  and counteract the build up of combustion fumes. I also means an airflow down the engine that helps return the oil to the sump.

As a bit of an aside, positive crankcase ventilation works at part throttle, when there's inlet manifold depression - cruising road cars. Race cars are likely to have wide open throttles more often than not, so the effect would be limited and you'd lose a little bit of performance by ingesting hot burnt gasses instead of fresh cool air.

Apart from doing a tiny bit to save the planet, a road car will also benefit from less contamination of the oil.
