I'm not convinced by their engine management approach to beat detonation. The chamber pressures will still be too high to realise the optimum efficiency of the engine. If they're building a true multi-fueller the exotic juice ought to be to increase the potential, not fudge round a fundamental limitation.
Though, if they stuck a second tank in the boot and ran an injector on each flavour, so the ethanol kicked in when the throttle opened wide enough to cause trouble, I'd be a lot more interested.
I still think it makes decent watching. More as entertainment than engineering, which I guess suits their audience. A lot of armchair petrol heads will have got an education about the Mini philosophy, which can't be a bad thing.

Well that's interesting, the front of the engine says MPI, but the fuel system says SPI. I knew the Jap Minis were a bit different with a side rad and aircon, but that must need unique engine management. Is it simplified MPI or SPI with added wasted spark ign

They seem to be making progress, however, i really would have ditched the air con to help temps in the engine bay as its going to get damn warm in there!

I think you would if in the UK, but in Oz i'd imagine you want the Air Con.
