LOL if my sister dint smash up my Punto i would have started on this already  o well atleast iv got the majority of the parts i need, so it will happen when i sort out another car i can drive round in whilst i do the conversion.

Although i think it will take more than a weekend lol, i could get it all in place in a weekend i think, but i need to fit a full new breakset along with breaklines, then i think the wiring is the thing that is going to take me a while to do.

Cant wait to get this in should be fun as hell when its fitted  I get the feeling im going to have to fit my 7 x 13 starmages though lol.

Iv got together a few parts and im going to drive up to my sisters uni tomorrow and see if i can sort out the Punto, so if i can it means she will be driving that for about a month then ill have it back off here to get the conversion underway

LOL i know what you mean, im only going to be able to get 7.9s under the 10s, but ill see whats its like and go from there

I got a little bit of time before work today, so i took the cam out the spare head that came with the lot of parts.

Posted Image

Then i took the cam off the engine:

Posted Image

And swapped the cam from the spare head into the engine.

Posted Image

When i get paid in a couple of weeks ill order a new clutch then ill get the engine and box all together ready for being fitted.

The only problem i can see i might hit is that as all the bits are kind of mix and match, i think i might have problems with all the sensors working... but ill see what happens when i come to wiring it up and getting it started...

Also does anyone know what inlet is better to use?

A small update. I poped down the garage today and got the cam belt fitted and timed up, im not really sure how the tensioner works, but i got it in place in the end, but i can see a way of adjusting it, but as nothing changed from when i took it off, i got it back on with some fiddling and pushing and now the belts nice and tight on there >_<, but not over tight.

Posted Image

So once i have my wages ill order a clutch plate, get that fitted and got my R65U box bolted on and the engine will be ready to use.

Also i had a search on my gearbox and its actually got a 3.44 final drive and not a 3.55 so even better than i thought :w00t:

Well iv got myself a new job which i must say is amazing. I now work in a garage that builds kit cars and restores salvage puntos. Its only me any my boss who work there, so i get really involved in everything. The garage builds full space frame kit cars, builds all the fiberglass panels in the workshop, etc...

So to me its my dream job really.

But as its a secon job it now means i am working 6 days a week so im not going to get much time to work on my minis, but i will be getting paid more so can buy nicer bits for them. Also i think ill talk to my boss and see if i can bring my minus to the workshop as that means i will be able to make some good progress on it after i finish my shifts ;D

I recived these babys today, thanks TukTuk

Also i got a bit of an ebay bargain:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

They are in mint condition, and i won them for the massive sum of £10 and they guy even packed them up for that. So im prety pleased with that. they will be going in Snot as my plan now is to make Snot more of a comfy car with the 1.6 lump and the minus stripped out, etc...

So i might end up even fitting a rear seat back in Snot.

There should be some changed to the look a bit when i start the engine conversion. Just a few bore bits to buy then i can start.

The bits i have to still buy are:

Perspex windows,
heated front window,
Clubby front,
Clubby headlights,
Clubby grill,
new wheel arches,
7.9" alloy 4pots,
Non servo break master cylinder.
Clutch and friction plate,
and a few small bits.

There are timing marks on the cams and the crank pulleys Tom, but be careful as both cam pulleys have exhaust and inlet stamped in them.

I have had to do 3 of these recently so can time them up in my sleep. Might be worth checking it in my opinion.

Nah its ok mate ill be buying new arches, and as said ill be going polycarb windows and i want them clear really, might be interested in the grill though, but ill wait untill i have ordered my front end before i go ahead and doing that.

Well today was the day the 1100 gave up on me, it have been running with really low compression in one of the pistons, and as i was just using the engine as a temp engine i didnt do anything about it, but today it gave up on me.

So now im stuck without a car!

So tomorrow ill have to get a lift into work, then i have monday off. So tomrrow evening when i finish work tomorrow ill get a lift to my garage, collect some bits, and then on monday ill have to rent a hoist and ill stick the 1275 that i was going to put in the minus into Snot.

Hopefully iv got everything i need for the conversion, as i need the mini to get to work on tuesday.

But its all good, if things go to plan me and my new boss have some good plans coming for some mini :D Both front and rear engined.

Also thank you so much for sorting me out with your engine hoist again, will be such a massive help for me!!!

Well i got a bit carried away today.

Thanks to my mum and king, after my mum dropped me off at work this morning, she went over to kings and collected his engine hoist for my to borrow, so i finished work at 6 and my mum came and picked me up, we went and got some quick dinner then headed over to my garage and i picked up my spare 1275 and put it in the back of my mums motor.

So we headed home in blizard snow and to find a mini looking like this:

Posted Image

So i begged my mum to let me use the garage, so in the end she said i could, so i got the engine and hoist out the back of her car:

Posted Image

I then dragged the mini in to the garage:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

So i got the bonnet and snow off lol:

Posted Image

Posted Image

I got the front end, off, strippe everything off the engine, and labled up a few wires:

Posted Image

And started to lift:

Posted Image

Got the engine out and dropped the new engine in, got the engine mounts bolted up:

Posted Image

So now tomorrow all i have to do is plum in the cooling system, fit the manifolds, get the gear linkage attatched, fit the top ball joints properly and re-wire it back together and hope she runs lol.

Should only be about anouther 30mins to an hour.

But im really happy with the progress concidering i was freezing i managed to man it out for 2 1/2 hours and get the engines nearly swapped.

Should only be about 30 mins left and ill be able to fire it up. I was going to carry on tonight, but it was just getting to cold :)
