Also i orered a pair of 1.5 SU's.
And i also iv been on evil bay again and iv managed to find some of my favorite wheels that can go on a mini, oh yes KN MERCURY's

So now i have quite a few of them

Still hunting for some 1.5 roller rockers, but i think im going to have to wait till after germany for them now.
So hopefully ill be able to sort a manifold for the carbs in time then ill get them fitted after iv one the first 500 miles and get it on a rolling road. hopefully before germany, but i really dont have much time as im going to newquay before i go to germany, so i really dont have much time to sort everything out...

I also got the timing cover seal changed, i though oh that would be easy to change wont take long. Well i took the starter motor off so i could lock the engine up, also removed that alternator as i was swapping it for a more powerfull one.

I then undid the crank pully bolt and went to take the pully off, but no!! the sill designers of the mini didnt thing to give enough clearance to take it off.

So i then removed the top bolt from that mount that attatched to the gearbox in the hope that this would help move to give a bit more room, but no!!! so after ages trying to get the extra space i just undi the engine mounts and did it this way, the only reason i didnt want to do this is because it was such a pig to get the lined up when fitting the engine, well they were undone and this gave me the room needed. so i took that off and the timing cover.

Well when taking the cover off i looked over the seal and it looked good as new, so i had a think about it and i thought the only reason its weaping is because it doent have a breather, so i jumped in the car and went and got a cover witha breather, got home and gave that a lick of paint.

I then fitted a new seal to that and wacked a gasket on, and get it all put back together, but i dindt get any pics of this.

Cool cool you getting another mini then?
Yea the 286 seems to be nice, but i havent been able to give it some yet as im still running it in. But to be honest i thought it would be really back for driving in town after reaing what everyone says, but it doesnt seem very bad to me atall, and if i was to go again i would go for something a little wilder, but yea it does seem to be a good cam from what i have experiences so far, Just wish i had chosena different final drive ratio as i get the feeling im going to top out about 80 - 90 lol but it gets there sooo quick

And fitted on my wall replacing the VW beetle painting lol

Also after changing the seal that was leaking, i had a look under the engine today and found there was still oil leaking off the bottom of the engine in exactly the same place so this annoyed me a bit, but i fied the engine up and there was defonately no oil coming though the seal, so i had a good look over the whole engine and saw the oil was coming out between the timing cover backplate and the block... well when re-building the engine i didnt take the back plate off, so this confused me a bit, so ill make a post up on here and ask what people think could be the problem as i cant see how oild would be coimg out here, although it is the other side of where the cam meets the timing chain... so i might not have torqued the three nuts up the go on the triangle bit.... i dont know im sure ill have it all aprt agin tomorrow, just a shame i didnt realise there was oil also coming out of here when i changed the seal as ill be doing the same process when i sort out this leak

hopefully this will just be something simple like the bolts not being fully torqued up or have come a bit loose...
Also when looking here i realised the pot joint isnt located properly in the diff, so ill have to find out whats going on there aswell, what do these little problems have to crop up now

I just want to drive the mini.

I then fitted a new seal to that and wacked a gasket on, and get it all put back together, but i dindt get any pics of this.
Then i took the timing gear set off, then i undid the three bolts round the cam and the two hex screws either side of the crank, then i took the back plate off to find a bit of a surprise, there was no gasket even fitted, there was a bit of the silicon gasket stuff there, but that looked a state, so no wonder it was leaking through there.

So i cleaned up the face of the block:

I then cleaned up both faces on the backplate:

wacked some blue gasket stuff on the gasket and put it in glace, then put the blue gasket stuff on the other side:

I then fitted the backplate back and torgued the bolts up, cleaned up the exess blue gasket stuff, i then went to fit the duplex timing set, and relised that two of the teeth on the small sear were shagged

So i gave the guy i got the webber a call and asked him if he had and duplex timing sets and he said hes got twoduplex Vernier timing sets and i can have one of them for £40, so ill go pick one of them up tonight if i can use the spare car.
But on the good side of things, i got this far in about 45 mins where as it took me about 1 1/2 hours to get to the stage of removing the timing cover last time, so iv done a fair amount more in 1/2 the time

Should have the mini back up and running properly once i have got that, also whilst im over there ill check to see if he has any 1.5 roller rockers

Also whilst i was up with the mini today i fitted the seam trip along there the rear seats meets the parcel shelf, an that really finishes the seat of nicely as it looked horable seeing the carpet edges on there.

I had to do a very little bit of hammering to the part that sits above the wheel arch. but thats all i needed to do to get it to fit like this, ill have a bit more fine adjustment to see if i can get it to sit any closer to give a bit more clearance on the battery, then ill just cut a hole and weld a new neck in, and cut the old neck off and put a patch over that.
