On the topic of wrapping - if one has done bodywork repairs with fresh metal - how well does wrapping protect the unpainted body from rust? If it can't protect it from rust (and I don't see how it could) it would be a matter of penny wise and pound foolish after all the repair work corrodes away underneath.

 

It seems to me wrapping is only a decent alternative if there's already a sound (if unattractive) finish on the car already.

Bare metal needs to be painted, no point in wrapping over that as any small gaps will let moisture in and bingo rust appears.
