MK1. MK2 MK3 Minis at least had factory sealer in.

Yes, from my experience that is true, the earlier ones were filled. Also, the fit of the wing to scuttle was better in those days, so the gap was small, which would reduce the risk of the sealant fracturing. But by 1984, when my third Mini was made, the tooling was obviously worn, and the fit of the unfilled joints was dreadful, with a large gap at the middle and tight contact at both ends. It looked really ugly.
