Clutch Slave Cylinder Removal

Best Answer David128 , 19 October 2015 - 01:59 PM

Removal of the Verto slave cylinder is usually straightforward .2 ways of doing it

1. Remove the 2 bolts either side of slave cylinder and lift off.

2. remove to rear bracket mounting boltss and the single front bolt below slave cylinder push rod.

After many years of neglectful mini ownership i've started stripping the bugger.

I've been following a guide which appears here:

http://www.theminifo...engine-removal/

and im doing alright, but I can't get to the nut nearest to the bulkhead on the clutch slave cylinder. I've done a couple of searches on here and on google and to no avail (I may just be rubbish at searching). Is there a technique that might require a crash course in yoga or preferably a socket extension doo daa thing that will make it a bit actually possible to remove?

Cheers!

A couple of ways you can tackle that one (Pre-verto?)

I find a 3/8" Drive 9/16" Socket gets in there.

Or leave it until last, after the engine steadies and exhaust have been disconnected, then you can usually tilt the engine quite a bit forward and you'll get at it with a ring spanner.

Yeah, pre-verto sorry for neglecting that bit of info!

Ah genius, never actually thought about how freely the engine will move with the steadies removed (well duh!), i'll give that a shot tomorrow then,

I can get my sockets on but they are right up close to the pipe so i can't get any of my wrenches or angle joints into it to get it out.

A spanner works as well.

But it does depend on what else you have in the way. A U J also works

Engine steadies and exhaust are both detached, engine moves forward less than an inch, still can't get at the bugger. Might need to invest in some short spanners unless someone has any other ideas?

Turns out I was wrong, i was informed a while back it was pre verto and blindly believed it to be the case, from googling it seems it is actually verto:

Now I imagine that changes any possible removal procedure?

Method number 2 worked like a charm, couldn't get to the bolt on the other side for method 1 but a trust 7/16 spanner sorted out single front bolt which completely passed me by and it came straight off. Cheers!
