It does look like a Mk.1, but I take the point about the rear window, although that could be an optical illusion.
The rear lights, interior, front grille, all badges and trim are all Mk.1, so it looks as though it is a Mk.1 first registered in 1968 on a 'G' plate, i.e. after 1st August 1968.
You need to get the VIN number and check it out with the Mini Cooper Register Mk.1 Registrar.
It looks to be worth around £28,000+ if it is an original Mk.1.

That is a lovely car, I'm very jealous.
When I saw it, it reminded me of a late mk1 I had. I'm think that was a '68.

Just for starters you can see Newton Commercial trim - so badly fitted, and is that an A+ block? I can barely see an S part in the engine shot.
Just because it has an S chassis number, if it does, doesn't make it an original S.

Looks that way.....the cast bosses on the block for the alternator mounting are in the A+ position, rather than further over in the dynamo position which needs the larger dynamo to alternator adaptor mounting bracket. It may be rather a mix of parts and have a chequered history (not unusual when cars are 40 or 50 years old) but as long as that is reflected in the sale price their are still plenty of classic car enthusiasts who are not that fussed about every detail being correct or are willing to spend money on putting things right where possible.

Yes this is why I'm asking people's advice,I've only ever had post 79' minis so have no experience looking at a mk1,the engine is my only concern as I've seen the v5 and it is a 1969 cooper s,whether it's a mk1 or mkII I do not know,my friends going to look at the engine tomorrow see if he can see the back of the block
Pretty sure based on what we have seen he will find it is a solid block and therefore a later 1275 engine, it would not have been unusual years ago to replace a worn or damaged S engine with a non-S engine when the cars were not worth big money. This will de-value the car but as said it will still be worth a fair amount and buyers will accept such things if the price is right and the seller is honest about the incorrect spec in any sales description. The price is hard to predict but is likely to be at the lower end because a replacement S engine is rare and expensive, and in such cases an auction is often the best way to find a cars true value and what someone is willing to pay.

I'm just worried about spending a lot and ending up with something of no where near the value
If you are considering buying you should consult the Mk1 Register in the Mini Cooper Register who often have past history, sale prices and owners on their record.

"To find out more please contact our MCR Registrar Help Desk, [email protected]. They will then deal with your enquiry either by responding directly or forwarding your enquiry to the appropriate registrar."

I'll also agree with the rear window looking too big for a Mk1.

Does the chassis number start K-A2S4 or K-A2S6?
